Meaty goodness!

We're still human, Ono, except maybe for you: perfect 1s and 0s with none of this gross meat stuff :)

Same mat as before, but in sphere form. OK, that's way too many blemishes. :)

I'm rendering an unblemished female model with my skin material and it's looking pretty nice... :)

I'm not sure I know what you mean about a 'smooth bump map'. Never heard of that one before. :)

I don't have any good bump maps for skin and I can't find any good free ones the internet. Besides, unless you are really close to the skin, you won't notice the bump map and it makes the rendering take longer to converge.

Stunning material!
It would be sooooo coooool being able to use a texture instead of colors or values in the Absorption Spectrum... this ability would lead to real skin materials using textures, like from Poser. Or anywhere else.
Cheers, David

Yes, but it's not the same, as I understand the material.
The absorption layer determines where to scatter, but not which color. The color is given by the absorption spectrum.
Or am I wrong?
Cheers, David

this is skin5 applied to an ear. I either scaled the bumpmap too small or didn't let it cook enough...

I did a skin test too.

My main Problem here was that realisticscene scale simply isn't possible while using SSS!!1!
The shown render is a 4.8m high mesh! Life size scene scale I would need to raise the Scattering Spectrum Value, or the mesh will be to translucent. Doing this Indigo starts render with 0 (Null, Zero, Nada, Niente) samples per second.
There seems to be some non linear drop in sps when raising the scattering value :/

Anyway, here the giant head:

nice test zom-b, you guys are getting there!
my ear is about real-size (6.5cm) and could be even more translucent I think. the mesh is open at the other side, I am cooking a closed version now to see if it makes any difference.
It should make a difference, right?!

Very nice results! I would like to see the absorption layer map if possible. Also, how did you do the hair?

I wouldn't say that! This is what I have cooking right now. Model is correct scale using the skin material I posted (without blemishes).

EDIT: updated image with less noise
