Instancing proxies:...export memory overflow [Solved]

Post by kwistenbiebel » Tue Feb 12, 2008 3:09 pm

hi Whaat,

I am trying the instancing/proxies method which you explained in that (wonderful!) tutorial SU file. All works well setting it up (trees).
I end up with a scene with one tree and the rest are simple cubes ('dummies') so I can pan and zoom without any lag in SU.

However, at export, sketchup chokes.....during the export phase I can see my RAM memory usage go up to the full 2GB I have installed on my PC.
At the moment that Indigo starts up (after 20 minutes or so) , the software comes to a stall and I see a (blank) Indigo window showing up with 'visual basic ...' in the title. (crash?)

Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Cheers,
Kwistenbiebel

ps: @Whaat: check SCF as I posted the 'naked runner' in your 'subdivide and smooth' thread.

It seems that I didn't right click all the 'dummy' components to 'enable instancing'.

Enabling it for all the dummies fixed it !

My first experiment with instancing/proxies.
Actually it is very easy to use.

Some Xfrog 'dummies':

Well done Kwisten! :D :D
Very nice field you have! How did you make the terrain? It's a very nice texture!

Instancing is a very nice feature, indeed: glad you were able to fix it (i always expect only great things from you :D )

Thanks Pibuz.
Glad to see you around here :)
I downloaded the ground texture from www.cgtextures.com and projected it on a 'sandboxed' ground plane.
