I think the blend of all 3 (diffuse tranmitter, phong, sss) looks best as well.
However the diffuse transmitter + phong technique will still be useful for single surface geometry and fast rendering.

Thanks for the model and the materials!

The triple blend looks best, but the sss component makes it very slow, doesn't it?

How about rendering one layer phong, the other transmitter and then combine them in photoshop (or gimp) with somthing like "if brighter"... that would increase the brightness of the translucent leaf and not decrease the brightness of the dark one.

Yes, I know it's cheating....
