I have problems with normal smoothing (specially with .obj). This morning radiance has adviced me that maybe i would separate in objects every smoothing group. In your exporter, normals are OK?
And of course I have a neverending fight with multiple UVs XD

PD: 3dsmax sun can be moved manually

I had some normal problems a while ago. I think i had also problems with obj format. No big issues at the moment though. It also depends on the model.
I mostly use xml format cause i've written the exporter for it myself and it seems to work better than 3ds or obj in some cases. It also has 3 uv channels.
