Re: Apartment with terrace
as walls, im using phong, 198RGB white,18 exponent and 1,8 IOR. Of course, bump and reflecion map.
Sometimes im using 2 phongs blended together. Both with different bumps and exponent maps

Another brilliant piece dcm
The white is great indeed, but maybe the apples are slightly too much uranium-injected :p

Re: Apartment with terrace
Hi dcm! Great images as usual! I always think they actually lack a little contrast, indeed.. But like they are, it's like browsing a catalogue. Very stylish.
A4 is not that big format, but 300dpi are quite a few! I read you use up to 4 SuperSamples: my question is how much RAM do you have? By my calculations, the final output should be something around 3500x2480pixels, which has to be multiplied by 4 with a SuperSample of 4. So quite a huge resolution!
And what is the real difference betweenan image renderer at SS=1 and at SS=4? Have you ever done any comparisons? Thank you a lot!

Re: Apartment with terrace
i have 8gb ram...with SS4, ram was quite full.
About SS : im using SS 3 or 4. Biggest difference for me is "AA". With SS4, objects are more "nice" or how to say. Picture is more sharpen and AA is better. Try to render something with SS1 and SS4 - you will see difference.
Its better to try it by yourself.

Sure it is!dcm wrote:Its better to try it by yourself.
I was asking to know if you had some comparison images already done.
Thank you a lot!
Re: Apartment with terrace
Thanks a lot for your answer. You are the beast !
I will try this on a further render.
Did you model the stuff on the terrace ? the lovely spherical opened covered chairs ?

Re: Apartment with terrace
Great images!
Having a Phong material on the walls: does it increase rendertime/noise significantly? I've used it sparingly before, but not for a whole room like that...
And rendering at SS4 is the way to go! I rarely go under that, too. Having 12Gb RAM helps

Re: Apartment with terrace
Phong for a walls is natural choice beacause every wall is reflecting room slightly and :
1. add more light to room
2. makes light areas near window which simulates natural light behaviour
3. with bump and specular map is possible to nicely simulate stucco or another type of wall penetration
4. rendertimes are higher but when im rendering picture for 60hrs in A4 300dpi, phong walls doesnt matter
Important is that im using advantic 100cd camera which have low contrast. This camera blows image little bit out but on other side, im using this blowed image as buffer when im doing curves and cross - process. Is beter to have blowed out image because after curve processing, dark areas are more visible and i have contrast under control.

Re: Apartment with terrace
You rule dcm! I love your renderings!
im wondering if you could update a file with your model, don't need to be this one from the threath, it could be a simple one that contains a chair, wood floor, a window with curtain and white walls
thanks for sharing knowlage!
