Personally I've never used it but it does mean that Luxrender is the? only free unbiased render left that is still in current production?

There is more than luxrender.
But thea render has not yet been released or ever been free.
It's based on kerkythea but kerkythea wil still be free and updated.

Technically true but I doubt the free one will be updated or have new features added often - wouldn't make commercial sense.Stromberg wrote:There is more than luxrender.

I also think that changing the name doesn't change the fact that Thea is in fact nothing more than a newer commercial version of Kerkythea.
But I could be wrong as I personally have little knowledge of it - only what I read between the lines in the statements

Thats true, cause there would realy be no need for them to add things to kerkythea, and it would be stupid to add things that is in Thea Render, cause who would use Thea Render if kerkythea had all the same features
But with a commercial render, they will get more pushed to make new features and keep it updated, and as kerkythea has been really slow in updating and so on latly, it will be for the best i gues
And there will awlays be new unbiased renders, cause someone is going to think that the have the new good idea, making a fast, good and free unbiased render.
That will in the end go commercial and when that happends there will be a new free one

Hopefully we can keep Indigo relevant for free users. And be bigger than maxwell at the same time.

I have high hopes for Indigo - still produces the most photo-realistic stuff I've seen.
Not sure why but it just does
Hopefully commercialisation will make it even better

Well, exactly.Stromberg wrote:But with a commercial render, they will get more pushed to make new features and keep it updated, and as kerkythea has been really slow in updating and so on latly, it will be for the best i gues
Why has Kerkythea development stalled in the past year? I would say because resources have been diverted to Thea.
Therefore, I think that Kerkythea will die a slow death...

I can tell, you are wrong.Doug Armand wrote: I also think that changing the name doesn't change the fact that Thea is in fact nothing more than a newer commercial version of Kerkythea.

btw... To stay in truth, the title should be a bit different. Kerkythea do stay free, no resolution limitations nor any other limitations and it will get updates. Thea Render is a new renderer (from inside to outside) from the maker of Kerkythea.
