Re: Using render foreground alpha in skindigo
How exactly you apply one render over another? Im going to go out on a limb and say that just rendering it to a transparent background with a PNG would be a lot more time efficient.
Deedeedee.. i mean neepneep, I guess you've got it all figured out? In yours it probabaly turns another color, right? Congrats, sherlock.
As if that wasn't enough, maybe when you grow up, you will learn that people have what's called jobs. They don't have their entire days to spend figuring things out. Clap clap clap.
Gee whiz, batman! Rendering on a 3D forum! ZoMGz!Very strange to read such thread in 3D forum

Aw snap! Given the fact that you think that age means you're going to necessarily be better with something that is completely undocumented, I would have never guessed. You're in college, neo?
I'm 14 and I'm laughing at your ignorance

Neo, if there's anyone around here who needs to grow up, it's you. Your incessant infantile whining is becoming, quite frankly, extremely annoying. Now put a goddamn sock in it and go do something worthwhile, like learn what an alpha render actually is.

Guys,
I am sorry to interrupt your dispute, but i feel that this isnt exactly the right place... So if you want to keep on bashing each other just write PM's or go the the IRC channel.

No bashing. Wee slap on the wrist.
Re: Using render foreground alpha in skindigo
I agree with fused.
It's SO annoying to have to read here all of these disputes.
And it happens very often when Neo0 asks a question.
Do you find it stupid? Then don't answer.
I usually drop the question and that's it.
This time I posted an image. I think Neo0 is clever enough to do some kind of (google) search and
find by himself what an alpha render is and what it is used for, if nobody replies to him.
As a starting clue for Neo0, I'd say that a black/white image has to be used as a mask of your original render in a phtoretouch program like photoshop or paint shop pro. The internet is filled with tutorials about this, and this is not specificly an Indigo topic, so don't expect to be answered here any longer.
If you'll find how to handle an alpha render, nobody will stop you from posting a tutorial in the off-topic section, to help others in the future.

Re: Using render foreground alpha in skindigo
Should I point out there's a difference between asking questions and trolling? And have you noticed most disputes around here have a common factor? What are we supposed to do? Just let him spread that vintage bipolar vibe of his?
What he needs, is some whoopass from Wyt. Worked for me.
See, some do learn.

Stinkie, I know you're right, obviously.
But yes: let him ask. If nobody answer he'll think. Useless to ask if nobody answers, isn't it?
I have 2 sisters: so, a LOT of experience

Re: Using render foreground alpha in skindigo
It's a reasonable question how to use the Alpha mask, if you hadn't used Photoshop before it might not be apparent how to use an Alpha mask.
Indigo may support RGBA .pngs in the future so that the background is rendered as transparent.

Re: Using render foreground alpha in skindigo
Of course it's a reasonable question. That's not the point here. Neo0's attitude is. He's constantly asking for help, which in itself is fine, but he fails to meet people offering help with anything else but arrogance and abuse. And he's done so for, well, quite a while now. I cannot be the only one who feels it's time for him to start behaving.
Yeah ... I know I'm beating a dead horse. Call me an optimist.

Re: Using render foreground alpha in skindigo
Pibuz, thank you for the civilized answer. I'll go check it out.
@Stinkie : Many of the posts here offered no help, simply derisive contempt. Examples?

If you read my op, you would see that I explained how alpha could be used, which more or less proves that I knew what it was.
If you still need more evidence of "unhelpful" help, look at neepneep and godzilla's post.

Really? Let's take a look at Wings 3Ds decade old open GL renderer. Whoops, I guess, I really do know what alpha is. SorryNow put a goddamn sock in it and go do something worthwhile, like learn what an alpha render actually is.

Really? Wouldn't you contend that anyone who acts derisively each time someone asks a question is, in fact, immature?Neo, if there's anyone around here who needs to grow up, it's you. Your incessant infantile whining is becoming, quite frankly, extremely annoying.

The first few answers were helpful. And you responded in a derisive manner. So ... what are you complaining about? Huh?
You have issues, boy.

Re: Using render foreground alpha in skindigo
I guess the problem here is the distinction between a feature of the renderer and a feature of the exporter, from what I can tell this is a feature of skindigo that creates an alpha mask for masking out the environment in post. As Indigo doesn't support rendering the background as transparent it is the only way to do it.
I think it would be a better idea to support writing an alpha channel to EXR, and then also to write the various light layers into layers inside the EXR.
