Well, ... what to say ...
I read it in the news today and was surprised when I noticed, that it
was in Finland. I do life in Germany and as you might know we had
such an issue too, in Erfurt.
So, ... it looks like those kinda things just happen "around the world" and not
just in the US*. Anyway, I'm always wondering when they say ... "Oh yes, he
was kinda odd but we would never have thought of this ... blablabla."
I guess we have to life with it, it's a part of our society, because we don't
do something against it. Just my 2 cents ... and we could talk hours about
this topic, but I'm still working and just had to give a short reply ... ;o)
nb: And might all of those who suffered ... rest in peace.
take care

"The sleeper must awaken"
Yeah i've heard of the German school shooting though i wasn't very old when it happened must have been about 9 years old maybe.
Though i've seen a documentary about it a while ago about school shootings and the shooting in Germany was included it's terrible how these things can happen and the number of shootings are increasing faster and faster....
Peoples who are close to these persons who shoots all these people. I think they notices that the person is acting wrong, but they don't think it's serious and doesn't really care that much about it, and thinks they will solve their problems themselves. But they should take time talking to these people and maybe these things wouldn't happen this often.

It's 'cause of society.
Some of those shooting guys are really intelligent (in a way) but ppl don't listen.
That's like a heavy depression, that get you to suicide. (Just the other way round - an aggression that gets you murdering others...)
It's a phenomenon, that *usually* turns up in very crowdy settlements (metropoles). There, social contacts start to break - you don't know most of the faces, passing you.... That can cause some psychical illnesses.
up to 100 ppl, you don't even need a will
up to 1000, the will is very basic
up to 10000 or 100000 (can't remember, exactly, any more), there is a quite complex will, that still works in most cases.
Above that, you start compromising
And then, there some when comes the big explosion, where you can't even come up with compromises.
- that's more or less, what's starting to happen, here, now already with younger ppl...

In austria, you need quite some psychological testings and a legitime reason.
If your reason is a question of time, you need to give the weapon back, afterwards.
Besides that, only Police, Military and Hunters have guns of any kind. (I don't like the hunter part...)
I dunno, how it looks with such a 3% limit...
But even here, a young person can get a weapon, if his father has one...
Even if the weapon is in a safe (you need to guaranty for save storing) there is a chance, that the child watches you without your knowledge...

The wikipedia says that there are 56 weapons per 100 persons wow i didn't think there were that many weapons
. But we hunt alot here esspecially elks so that's one major reason i think. Read about it here

One aspect i do not like is how the event is "sensationalized" by the mass medias. Yes it is dramatic, awfull and everything but they should insist more on the suicidal aspect of that event, the video send before to YouTube is tipically a S.O.S such as suicidal people ever send before trying to kill themselves. The problem is that sometimes they are just too affraid to leave the place alone, and sometimes they just hate life so much...
Certainly the failure comes from the relatives of that dead killer guy who didn't detect preliminary signs, but I would not blame them in any way, they know more suffering than necessary already...
Men I hate NRA cuz I love life. Dirty biz.

I see you saw Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine CTZn
I hate guns too.
Alex22, you're from Canada, right ? If you saw Bowling for Columbine, I would be interested to know your opinion about how Michael Moore depicted Canada. He showed a country with very low violence and almost no murders.
Is that true, or did he show a biased image of Canada to oppose it to US ?

No I live in Germany, but I did live in both USA(age 4-6) and Canada(age 6-8, I lived in Sarnia -> Moore's "good" city). Actually I referred to Moore when saying that, maybe it was a bit stupid doing so. Either way, I lived in West Virginia, so it maybe a bit extreme because the people there were probably just to far from "real" civilisation, as they didn't know where germany is, they disliked our indian neighbours (say hello to racial equalty) and nobody helped when there was an accident, until my parents helped the injured person. That are some things in which Canada is probably nicer. But actually I never noticed real differences in violence, if there was much. I don't remember any fights or violent conflicts. At least my parents say they did like Canada much better.
Gun ownership is a hard question.
- Would I be so positive about it if my for example child would get shot by someone who had the gun legally??
- Would I be still positive about it if my child got shot by someone who had the gun illegaly?
- And would I be so positive about guns if I once in my I life defended myself with it??
Well.. I am 100% positively pro legal ownership.
But I can imagine something even better than legal gun ownership. Non-existence of guns-weapons. That would be the most perfect solution.
Once something like that exists it just has to be legal. If such things exist, people will always find ways to get them. Same with drugs. I've never used drugs of any kinds and never will so I'm against them completly but since they exist, the fact that they're not legal makes them even more dangerous and the illegality destroys much more people. Alcohol is legal and creates hell lot of havoc. But that's the price we have to pay for existence of such substance. There's nothing to do about it if we still want to run a free society.
Sort of a very sharp double-edged sword here.
