Could IMPFarm be used to render indigo scenes?

Post by fatfinger » Tue Jan 16, 2007 3:05 pm

Hi there, I discovered your renderer last week and I'm hooked! Awesome work, much kudo's etc.

So, anyway, I was looking for a way to ease distributing jobs across networks and came across this:

http://www.imp.org/impfarm/default.asp
The central server is a collection of database driven web pages. Jobs are submitted and managed with a browser. We provide a render client that uses only the http protocol for all communication. The client is written in perl and compliled to an .EXE file for windows users. Linux users run the client as a native perl script. Cross platform support is simple and straightforward since a single codebase is used for both clients. It supports access over firewalls and proxy servers.
It issues the frames as xml documents, but is only setup to work with PovRay at the moment.

What I was thinking is, if it's already handling xml files, would it be much of a leap to be able to get it to render indigo files? I don't know perl, so I wouldn't know where to start, but it seems like this could be a basis for a good indigo render farm setup.

Any of you wunderkinds out there know if this could work ?

thanks,

From the license:
You may not install or use Indigo on a render-farm, where the use of, or access to, the render farm
(and/or software installed on the renderfarm computers, and/or other services)
is sold to any third party, without an explicit written agreement for
such usage with Nicholas Chapman (nickamy@paradise.net.nz).
So if you're not selling anything....
But I think Nick (Ono) can give you a better answer.
