I agree. .blend works fine for Blender even in Windows environments and .indigo would be unambiguous.

What about material descriptions and such ? Maybe 4 or 5 letters would be enough, unambiguous and all that jazz...
.igsc, .igi(m), .igmat etc

Well, my 2 cts

Ok. Still .indigo could be for the scene description ascii (xml) file, something like .indmat for materials and .indmsh for mesh files. These file extensions would not be so obvious but in the context of an ".indigo" scene file they would make sense even to someone who does not use Indigo.
