Light problem!

Post by danyolgiax » Wed Feb 28, 2007 4:44 am

Hi!

I'm using Blender 2.43 with Blendigo 0.7t5 BETA 3 e Indigo 0.7

I'm trying to create a simple scene with two lights.
I've created 2 box and i've followed this tutorial to create a red and blue light:
A meshlight instead is simply an object that emits light, just as a lamp do. If, for example, you want to create a lamp in your scene, simply model the lamp as an object, and make it a meshlight. The object will radiate light outwards of it’s normals.

To set a material as meshlight, first select it in the blendigo exporter, then select “light” form the second drop-down menu (see the first screenshot in this page).
The parameters you have to change are few, but very important, expecially if you are using the linear tonemapping (see the User's Manual for further information). The “efficacy scale” button lets you to use two parameters very similar to those seen in the real world: power (in Watt), and overall luminous efficacy (in lm/W). Very important is also the drop-down menu that lets you choose between three light-types: blackbody, peak and RGB. If you are a beginner, I suggest you to start with the blackbody light-type, because it lets you setting directly the temperature of the light (the sun has a temperature of ~5500K).
The result scene is very dark with a very weak red and blue light!!

i've tryied to increase gain, power and overall luminous without any result!!

can u help me?

tnx

Here is a zip file with:

img2 - red and blue weak lights

Hmm... I see no problem. It looks exactly so as it have to be. Red and Blue light can not light the whole scene

i guess you have enabled reinhard tonemapping.
if this is the case, increasing the gain of your lights won't change the final result. reinhard tm imitates the behavior of the human eye (which can "see" well exposed images independent from the brightness of the "lights", e.g. a dark room or a sunny day). try experimenting with the pre/post and burn values of the tonemapping to change the overall brightness of your picture.

Try modelling a tube with one end capped and the other end uncapped then stick a small sphere mesh emitter inside it and then maybe you'll have a spotlight...You'll need to fiddle around with the watts & efficacy scale a bit...2000w at 50 lm/w efficacy should be enough

edit: and use linear tonemapping :D

RGB light is by default very weak.... remember, that it may be pushes higher than <rgb>1 1 1</rgb>...
for example a bright blue light may be done using <rgb>0 0 999</rgb>...
But I have no Idea how the Blender Exporter handels this!

I've used a perfect-reflector-semi-sphere + glas lense + micro-rect-light as Spotlight :D
Works fine!
But if you'd use a parabola instead of the semi-sphere, it would be just like a torch / flashlight ;)

I'll edit this post, except there are 10-20 replys :D

Edit:

Tell me, if it doesn't work! Shouldn't make any problem....

Ok, it works, but as BiDir is off, not as expected... It needs long to get a good result :(
My last test with it was in 0.6, so I've forgot about this BiDir :(
I'll post it anyway ;)

@Ono: Have you already found out, what's the problem with BiDir? Can you solve it? Maybe, you an make indigo open source, so you can get help from anywhere -> development would be even faster :D
