Need some help!

Post by solidsnake23451 » Tue Jul 01, 2008 9:49 am

Hey, ive been trying all night trying to get my scene to render but none of the texture seem to show up, these are the ones which are from an image, jpeg. im using blender 2.46. using indigo 0.5 test 7 and exporter o.5beta.
and also, im having troble lighting my scene looks great on blender render but seems dark on indigo,

if its possible to send the .blend file to you lot, and you export it, and ill do the rendering over night if that is possible.

many thanks to anyone who leaves a message.

To send us the blend. make it an attachment, but we're gonna need the textures also. And you did UV map all of your textures right?

And it is normal that your lighting intensity is different in BI compared to Indigo.

that is EXACTLY your problem.

No UV mapping = no textures in indigo.

Indigo REQUIRES you to UV map your textures. Or it won't display them. I suggest you google some tutorials for UV mapping.

You should get a newer version of indigo+blendigo exporter,
but you will still need to UV map though.:)

Hmm yeah it is. But UV mapping rather simple. I too find most of the tutorials confusing, so I'll try to explain it the way it works in my head :lol: (sounds like im crazy or something...)

Anyway. Setp one is obviously to create your mesh and give it a material. Once you've done that, you want to add a texture. Click on the texture tab, click add, in the drop down choose image, and load it. Then go back to the material tab and tell your texture to use UV coordinates (i think the default is orco).

Then, go to edit mode (I suggest splitting your view) and select the face you want to UV map. In the UV Map editor choose the right texture (if you've only added one texture there will only be one option). For multiple faces, select them one by one. and map them. because if you select multiple ones at the same time the squares overlap. You may also find "Select active face" (shortcut = C) to be useful. it'll keep you from moving single point but you will be able to select the face individually in the UV map editor.

EDIT: Here's a screenshot of a wall I UV mapped earlier for my Bioshock project. As you can see in the 3D view I selected each face of the wall and then placed the vertices on the UV editor accordingly. Like I said do them one by one. Also, it could be useful if you joined the IRC channel. There are quite often people present and they may be able to help you.

(If you're using Firefox, go to google and search chatzilla. then once its installed type in the browser's url box irc://irc.enterthegame.org/indigo )

No problem :) Glad it helped.

EDIT: I forgot to mention though, in Blendigo you will have to add the path to your texture file. or else it wont find it.

Albedo -> image/diffuse/color
Bump -> self-explanatory
Specular -> Same as above.

Usually the three textures will use the same coordinates so you don't have to map all three of them. JUst put in the paths (by click on the ... button) and you're gonna be fine.

anyway I'll be writing a complete tutorial after i go eat, so you can refer to it afterwards.

nice start :)

You're lucky - AFAIK, the overall opinion of Blender's UV-mapping is quite at the top of the list of best UV-mappers ^^

Well once you get the concept it's pretty easy to use.
