Benchmark needed

Post by Jambert » Fri Jan 08, 2010 6:14 am

Hi all

I need some test to help me to choose CPU for a home made renderfarm, would be realy nice if some of you could make test. I don't remember when was last benchmark session, maybe we can try with new test scene from "Psor", "cooler_inc" and "dmn".

so, 5 min rendering: core i7 920 O/c 4ghz

caterpillar:272.67 spp, 635 390 Sample/s
erotica:458.68 spp, 1 003 732 Samples/s
pins:432.63spp, 692 187 Samples/s

ZomB, I'm realy interested by your AMD Phenom II X4 945

thx

Looks like I'm going to need to upgrade my CPU soon.. Or at least the next time Intel releases a new series. :)

here are my results:

AMD Phenom II X4 945 @ default 3Ghz

catapilar:
spp: 113
s/s: 262384

Erotica:
spp: 203
s/s: 447611

pintest:
ssp: 203
s/s: 324067

Maybe somebody could create a batch file to place in the indigo folder and start. all 3 scenes get rendered for 5min and in the end a textfile can be created out of the png meta data via -dumpmetadata to get all the numbers?!

this would make speed comparisons between indigo versions very easy too :)

I agree but I don't know how to do it :(

Indigo is realy slower in linux. Maybe because of O/c.

win7: caterpillar:272.67 spp, 635 390 Sample/s
ubuntu: caterpillar:250 spp, 584038 samples/s

:?

It might be how system shares cpu resources.
I remember Blender internal renderer benchmark was allways faster in Ubuntu few years agoo,
but some programs sucked out 100% from cpu, soo other programs didn't start anymore. Maybe there is now some space reserved for other applications.

Be careful on Win32 vs Win64 comparison : the 64bit is much slower when ISL is involved.

There reasons aplenty. Compiler, compiler switches, linked math libraries etc. can have quite an impact.

There was quite a comprehensive comparison and test of CPUs in one of the recent c't magazines. This is a German publication that usually takes between 4 and 6 weeks to reach me her in the US. Here is the link:

Interesting - My i7 930 at 4.01ghz on Windows 7 64bit
gets

caterpilla - 703k
Erotica - 1058k
pins - 810k

Crazy to crack 1million samples. My Pentium 4 has hit 100+k on clay type renders, but usually averages around the 25-35 mark :)

I tried Indigo v1.09, and it's about the same speed as Lux Render now, in terms on samples /sec, but that isn't always the best way to compare different renderers though. I don't get more than 200k there....
