When's the goodies comin'?

Post by Stinkie » Sun May 03, 2009 12:07 pm

Currently, things are probably chaotic at GlareTech HQ. Which is understandable.

Yet, the current state of things is sub par. Where's the new and improved exporters? Where's the 'better documentation'?

Yes, I am whining. Nevertheless I'd like something of a time frame. Me put stock in your project, you deliver. In a timely fashion, please.

That is an entirely unrealistic perspective Stinkie. Your "stock" has ensured things can continue; not suddenly speed up significantly...there have been no changes to the number of people working on the indigo engine or exporters...

Patience is a virtue. Come on, a little grounding in reality would be appreciated

Stinkie, you have to admit, the development pace of Indigo and the exporters has always been insanely fast. (and up till now, with no financial incentive) Compare that to some other commercial renderers. All that stuff you mentioned will come, don't worry. :)

 @stinkie

that shift in outlook didnt take long did it?...

but he's got a good point you know guys..

here we have a product launch for a high quality renderer intended to compete with other renderers in a market for a professional's $

the website is barely adequate even for regulars, the pay system wasnt functioning, the exporters arent available, there is no useful documentation, the installer isnt happening, the beta group is and isnt accessible....half the old community already left..

they should have had this all sorted out and ready to go from day one
its going to take someone about a month full time alone to make a decent manual

I hope those who paid already do have a lot of patience cos its going to get ugly otherwise

cheers and good luck  BF

I don't know about you guys, but I always get paid when my work is done, not before hand.

The half priced deal includes a certain 'risk' and 'development time' margin. Fine.
But if there are promises to be made, then a time frame should be given.

Stinkie has a point.

Thatll be the last 5-6 years of development work, then.

lol. Sorry, boys, I may have worded my post a bit strong. Just wanted to shake the tree a little.

But ... I do have a teeny-weeny point, now don't I? Yes, Wyt and Whaat, you guys have one too. I like mine better, though. 8)

Oh ... I wasn't talking about "speeding up things significantly" - don't put words in my mouth, Wyt. I was - mainly - talking about a working exporter. That one should've been available with the V2 download. Now, it wasn't, and I don't want to linger on the subject, but ... it should've been there. Not an entirely unreasonable or unrealistical point, as the product is somewhat useless without it. :)

True!

*disclaimer: Stinkie means no harm, he just wants to start a-renderin'*

I also think this whole $$$ making stuff was rushed way to early!
No Manual available, website just half done... material database still not online, no working wiki, shop didn't work probably ...
Also the status of exporter Writers with Glare is still something nobody really wants to talk about!

I hope the best for Glare, and would love to buy Indigo license too, but they have to admit that the start in the marked is a disaster, and the only thing of a full featured product they really offer is a pricetag atm!

exactly..
and i must append: responsiveness of Glare is lower and lower.. i am not going to invest into 4 licenses before i got answers and proofs what i want, and honestly, i have begun reconsidering my plan.

It's the weekend, eh? Mind you, I'm not being sarcastic. :)

Look, youngsters, I didn't start this thread so we'd have a place to huddle together and bemoan 'the situation' - though I'd probably should've worded my first post differently. Hey, it was late, I'd been to dinner - the pasta and, especially, the wine were excellent. 8)

However, when I said I'd like to see some sort of time frame, I was quite serious. The stuff that's lacking from the current download, is vital - at the moment Indigo's quite useless for me. One cannot expect me to be happy about that.

That said, do I regret getting a license? Nope. Interesting times ahead!

Don't apologize. You are right.

At least they should provide 'working' plugins from the start.
If you buy a car, you don't just buy the engine, now do you?

The pressure is now on Whaat and the other plugin developers.....they got thrown into this adventure quite brutally. I hope they are well compensated for what they have done and will do.

I wasn't. I am trying to strike a balance between being supportive and ... errr ... honest. There's not much point in going 'fantastic!' all the time, and neither is it useful to do the opposite.

The car analogy is right on the money.

I think that these are obvious teething issues which are welcome. Would everyone rather wait a couple more months in the dark while things are finalized and refined or would you rather get going now??? This is the point of being an early adopter.

I also still think everyone is so used to riding on the coattails of Ono's work over the years that this is what they expect now and I don't think it is fair. There is a tremendous amount of work that has already gone into Indigo, and as it stands I think it is definitely worth the price - especially considerig I have done a lot of work with it in the past and made good money too.

If you are NOT prepared to be an early adopter and forgo a few amenities like proper manual THEN DO NOT PAY FOR THE LIFETIME COMMERCIAL LICENSE. It is that simple. Wait until it is finished then you can pay full price for a single version with exporter, manual et al.

Ehem, that sounds awefully general....

There are exporters that actually work and are quite complete, you know....
