specular SSS with IoR 1.01 or so + very weak scattering and slight absorption, based on the dust colour...

An easier way is to set sun turbidity higher; depends on the effect you want.

how to proceed

should i put a cube surrounding the scene and apply the material to it?

that's right CTZn, but only if you want a dusty horizon. It wont work for a dusty closer environment. (Except you use the newer very very slow skysystem which simulates turbidity by a correct amount of SSS)

Yes dagobert, that's the way to go - except if you only need the horizon to appear dusty, which would mean, CTZn's way to do it is simpler AND faster....

That's what I said, depends on the effect aimed, dagobert was unclear concerning this point if I'm correct, unless he said "atmosphere" not "objects".

And that's not correct to say that turbidity affects horizon only.

...It affects the whole sky + a bit the sun (not as noticable, due to its brightness) + all the light comming from it
But it doesn't affect in any way the visbility distance or sharpness or whatever...

it does for visibility. I was just suggesting kram, not arguing.
