and I am evaluating Kerkythea at the moment and wanted to spent
some time with indigo as well .
could somebody here maybe give me an objective
feature - render time comparison?

Let me encourage you to also take a look at SunFlow which has awsome render quality and an outstanding feature list, although it's written entirely in Java which make it faily slow.
On the other side Indigo has a few features that I haven't seen anywhere else yet and a very intelligent basic concept that made me stick to it.
Also the experimental character of Indigo and Sunflow and their rapid development are interesting for people who like to explore possibilities.
I think it strongly depends on what your specific need are (GUI, biased, integrated etc...) to choose an application.

its also interesting what 3D application your department work with, because of Exporter development, that is "outsourced" to the community...
Some Exporters are frequently updated others not...
Because of the powerful network rendering possibilities of Indigo, speed should not be an issue, if your department got some workstations...
