What I used - cut to 12-13 inches


Rigged up - bottom fan removed to allow easy access


Standard shoe lace style double knot, but the second one is quite loose, so I can undo it if needed -had to stretch it out a bit before tying it up


The finished result - twist the abnds together once before inserting a drive or 2 twists for SSD - quite secure due to the greater width of these bands, won't flop or move around.


But in the end I just plugged the SSD directly into the bracket of the first slot of the drive cage in the Silverstone FT-02 - cartridge style

From an uneducated point of view I am wondering how the rig would impact the lifetime of traditional hard drives with a strong torque at startup.

The elastic bands are strong and taut, it doesn't move
And HD last a lot longer than you think. My oldest has been in use 8 hours a day, for years and still going strong

SSD don't produce much heat, plus this case has positive pressure design - doesn't suck in any rubbish as a result - three 180mm fans blow in at the entire bottom end and vent out the top with convection help so it's very effecient at heat removal. I do run my i7 930 at 4ghz and recently a 3930k 6 core above 4.4 ghz which produces much more heat

My oldest has been in use 8 hours a day, for years and still going strong

Mine is halting 8h a month, and that's how I've come to loose all my 3d work. I'll double-check the screws

Silverstone Fortess FT-02
It's a pretty big and heavy duty case, and deep - power supply cables are a bit of a reach to get to the front.
Best with a modular power supply, so you can remove cables as needed.
The cables run across the back of the case. You cna open up the back side panels as well.
Power supply sucks fresh air from the outside and expels it upwards, so it doesn't spin up from the interior heat

They have a few other cases based around the same theme, but with better HD racks IMO
