I actually retract my statement.

I've been in WASTE groups with technically proficient people - a bunch of nerds, really - and we still had issues (though once it was set up, it was solid)

You *normies* (as I call normal people) wouldn't have a chance :D

I second the gmail idea.

Or if you just want some webspace, I've got tons.

Your call.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. What do you think of the following:

I open a "texture" thread and upload one or two textures a week, possibly at half-res, and rotate by editing the thread so as not to waste bandwidth. Anyone who wants the entire package at full res (or missed the texture they really wanted, or want just one higher-res texture) can message me and get:

1) The full-res texture mailed to them as a zip file.

or

2) A CD with the whole shebang (or themed CDs like walls, fabric, metals depending on the size of the package.)

Both one and two would be against a small fee (plus postage for the CD), half of which would go to Ono for maintaining the site.

That way people get to see and use the textures for free if they want to and there's an additional incentive to contribute towards the upkeep of the site if they want higher-res maps.

The thread could also be made to work as a "texture request" thread, so as to better fit the needs of people here...

What do you think?

What do you think would be the best way to distribute them online - either free or for a small fee?

In my opinion you should look at this Page :

http://www.cgtextures.com/

There are much hig/low-res. Textures.

Sorry Sebastian but you can't compare the two. CG textures only has raw photos - not tileable and not useable as such. I use them sometimes, but making these into proper textures requires a lot of work. I'm talking about full-res, seamless textures here, complete with bump and specular maps. This is a completely different ball game. And textures like those you can't find on the net for free. At best you can find very low-res versions of professional textures, for instance at Arroway. But very rarely full-res versions and whatever you can find always requires a lot of processing.

I've personally found the "professional" texture packs quite useless myself anyway :/

Don't get me wrong, CGTextures is fantastic. I use them quite a bit. But - and this is not me saying this but them - they understand themselves as suppliers of raw material for textures, not of finished maps.

Rapidshare requires you to pay doesn't it, or for free it is greatly limited as far as speeds go.

I've never had much luck with it.

Create a torrent and put it on a public tracker somewhere :)

I can offer you webspace and a domain name for a year.
The domain will effectively cost me nothing anyway because I'm in credit with the hosting company.

The space otherwise doesn't get used much, just looking at these stats makes me sad:
Total Bandwidth Provided: 3182 GB
Total Used So Far: 0.338 GB
Total Disk Space Provided: 261560.000 MB
Currently Using: 2.4 GB

I can give you your own FTP access, but I don't have time to build a site.

Thanks Dougal. I really appreciate this. But I've got the same problem you have - no time to build a site - and another one you don't have - no idea how to go about it in the first place. But it's a very kind offer in any case...

i also wouldn't mind setting you up some pre-existing site package, such as
http://gallery.menalto.com/

but I wouldn't be able to customise it right now.

Thanks Dougal. Let me have a look and mull it over. It's possible this whole texture idea was a bad one to start with. Got to do some rethinking... :(

Well, that's why i was saying setting up the gmail account kind of takes care of everything, except for getting paid of course. :)
