[BUG] Network Slave does not upload it's stuff

Post by griesenglonz » Tue Aug 11, 2009 5:17 pm

Hi there.

I have the following setup: Master running on Mac OS X 10.5.7, 3GB RAM, 2x2.33GHz / Slave running on Windows XP SP3, 4GB RAM, 2x2.80GHz.

I've successfully completed one overnight render where everything was fine. But last night I started another render job, checking the log of the first 30 Minutes - everything ok. In the morning I was wondering about the poor result and checked the log: the slave haven't downloaded any frame for a long time - but still runs with 100% CPU usage. Also three clients where displayed in the network render section of Indigo (one with 65k Samples/s, the others with 0k).

Is this a bug or did I make any mistake?

Hey glonz

I had the same problem as yours during Internet based network sessions, its reported here.

Do you maybe use a (poor) WLAN network?

Hi ZomB,

thanks for your reply. I have a very good WLAN Connection based on an Airport Extreme Base Station and both computers are only a few feet away from the station. No packet loss or something like that.

I have rebooted both machines and now I'm trying a fresh restart. Let's have a look...

Hi Achim,
I let my scene render overnight yesterday and everything was okay... 3 Macs with OS X 10.5.7.
Strange.
Cheers, David

I have two network slaves. One does what it should, the other one doesn't find the master even though I can ping to it and have no firewall active.
With the free indigo versions everything was fine.

I think the issue happens only when I work on my Mac during Master/Slave-Renderings (yes this works very good, Indigo has 190% CPU, the rest is for the UI). At overnight renderings everything seems ok...

I haven't experienced this problem, but it does sound like it takes a whole night to reproduce :(
There will be some changes to the network code in the upcoming 2.2, which may help.

a hamachi based network with 2 slaves is promising to reproduce :)

Anyway I'll be happy to test 2.2 here!

Maybe some timeout option can help, that during the slave upload checks if for XXX time no data gets send anymore, so the slave could be reseted?!
