[BUG] Strange Phong Shading

:shock: For some reason I am getting this wierd black effect when using phong shading.

Check your normals. (All faces in model pointing outward)?

Yup. I later found out edgesplit modifier fixes it. But why does it do it in the first place.

that's a normal smoothing problem.
all edges, sharper than about 30° will have that problem ;)
