[req] <alias_mesh> (aka multi-displacement)

Post by CTZn » Sat Jun 07, 2008 1:16 am

Hello, here's the draft of it:

Initial conditions:

<material1> uses displacement
<material2> uses another map for displacement

<mesh1> Has material1 applied.
<model1> Not sure if model has to be implied into this req. feature.

Requested action:

Code: Select all

<alias_mesh>
		<current_name>mesh1</current_name>
		<new_name>mesh2</new_name>
		<new_material>material2</new_material>
		<max_num_subdivisions>5</max_num_subdivisions>
		<subdivide_pixel_threshold>3</subdivide_pixel_threshold>
		<subdivide_curvature_threshold>-1</subdivide_curvature_threshold>
		<subdivision_smoothing>true</subdivision_smoothing>
</alias_mesh>
The pitch here is that <alias_mesh> would tell Indigo to get the displaced mesh1 geometry from cache, in order to apply a second displacement pass. The final aim is to break the very directionality of displacement; for this matter a fbm as first pass would be perfect. Oh and this would be chainable, as long as the subdivision level is set smartly.

Thoughts ?
