More kd-tree stuff

Post by noyb » Thu Oct 26, 2006 5:38 pm

After playing with a scene of mine for a while, I discovered that most (if not all) of my kd-tree errors are caused by rotation. If an object is off-axis from the original position, one of two things happen - either the scene won't load (kd-tree error) or the .tre cache file is significantly larger than the original (2-10 times original size).

Some details:
The scene is exported to .6 test 6 from 3ds max 8 via *.3ds without the indigo exporter.
More rotation causes more of a problem (larger .tre file and eventual error).
Rotations of 90degrees don't seem to cause a problem.
The test object is about 85k tris and without rotation creates a ~65mb *.tre file.
There are no instances or grouped/linked objects in the scene.

I might try u3dreal's exporter and see if I get a better result exporting the scene via *.xml.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Any solution?
I think Indigo is awesome and would really like to see this problem fixed.

I can post more details later if needed.

Why don't you use the exporter right away??

I never have such problems.. and you can even use 3ds for the export..

New version with lot's of new stuff will be out soon. :D

cheers

I don't use it because of habit
I started using indigo with max 4 but I recently upgraded... no exporter for max 4 :) .

I'll try it soon...

I tried to export via m2i and it did work using xml format (thanks u3dreal ) , but .3ds still doesn't work even with the exporter :? .
