SkIndigo 1.0.1 Beta Available for Testing

Post by Whaat » Mon Nov 05, 2007 6:45 am

I am happy to release this massive SkIndigo update. There are sure to be lots of bugs since so many changes have been made (especially to the GUI). Please do NOT advertise this release on other forums. This release is intended for testing and bugfixing the new features and is recommended for experienced users only. Thanks.

This version is to be used with Indigo 1.0.1

Changelog:
#Version 1.0.1

#Changed: Complete UI overhaul using dhtml web dialogs (two UI modes, saved preview thumbnails, sliders, tooltips, etc.)
#Added: Reinhard and Camera tonemapping
#Added: watermark option
#Added: auto choose threads
#Added: halt samples per pixel
#Added: custom output image name
#Added: enhanced support for nkdata including custom nkdata
#Fixed: made nkdata IGMs compatible with Maxigo
#Changed: NKdata files are now exported when saving IGM
#Changed: environment maps can now be located in any directory
#Changed: Phong with opacity less than 100% exports as blended with diffuse trasmitter
#Fixed: IGM import with arbitrary gamma values
#Changed: made Indigo always open maximized
#Changed: frosted glass preset exponent to 100
#Removed: option to change exponent of Thin Glass materials (always exports as 1 million)
#Changed: low priority mode can now be used when using more than 1 thread

When posting bugs please include:
1) Your OS
2) Indigo version used
3) Error messages displayed in the Ruby Console Window

Happy Rendering!

Whaat

EDIT: This is how previews work:
1) Push the preview button to launch the Indigo preview
2) The preview image will be saved every 30 seconds to the thumbnail path that is specified in your render settings
3) The path to this thumbnail will be added as an attribute to the selected material
4) The SkIndigo material editor dialog will be linked to this thumbnail whenever the material is selected.. This means that to 'refresh' the preview image, you have to click on the material in the paint bucket. It does not automatically update the link at a particular time interval.

EDIT 6 Nov 07:
Uploaded new version. The problems that some users have been having are most likely due to faulty installation. The new version has a much simpler directory structure. If you have problems displaying the dialogs, please verify your directory structure:

SketchUp/Plugins/SkIndigo_1_0_1.rb
SketchUp/Plugins/SkIndigo (folder with all support files - no subdirectories)

I am going to have fun with this one.
Thank you very much.

You made me laugh with the 'uberbeta' naming :)
It is indeed something special .

oops first bug :):

OS: Vista home premium x32 bit
Browser: Mozilla firefox 2.0.09 (manual Java script blocker called 'no script' installed :))
Indigo version: 1.0.1

Problem:
1.the GUI's show up but several boxes are blank.
2. no sliders available (roughness, refl). Instead a blank box shows up.
3. Pushing a button doesn't do anything.

Java script is required for all webdialogs so you'll have to get rid of the blocker.

I changed my 'default browser' to IExplorer and still experience the same issues (did a restart).

OK, I have looked into this and have made a surprising discovery. It seems as though your default web browser has nothing to do with which web browser SketchUp uses when launching web dialogs. What this means is that even though you switched your default browser to IE, I am guessing that FF is still being used for the SkIndigo web dialogs and your script blocking program is preventing it from working.
What happens when you right-click on the SkIndigo dialog? Do you get a FF context menu or an IE context menu? If you get the FF context menu, you should be able to allow scripting for the SkIndigo dialog using the 'NoScript' context menu. If you get the IE context menu (eg. says "View Source" instead of "View Page Source") then it is possible that there is some other software (Norton?) that is blocking javascript. Another thing to check is the Ruby Console Window. Do you get any error messages when you open a SkIndigo dialog?

Thanks for the cool update, Whaat! :D

When I hit preview, I get this error message: "SceneLoadExcep: failed to open doc from path 'previews/IMPsphere.igs'. Failed to open file."

When I use bump maps, this appears: "SceneLoadExcep: failed to load texture 'c:users/myname/desktop/indigo_v1.0.1/TX_default/texturenameandnumber.jpg'. (In element 'albedo_texture', around line 103, column 17): ImFormatExcep: Only 3 component jpegs are currently supported."

The last error I also got while using the previous version of Indigo and SkIndigo.

Vista Business 32 bit (under Bootcamp)

Internet Explorer 7, version 7.0.6000.16386

EDIT: Read this in the readme.txt. "3. Only 3 component JPEG and PNG textures are supported but PNG may cause Indigo to crash. Grayscale textures are not supported."

Does the last sentence (you'll have to forgive me my ignorance :) ) mean 'actual' bump maps (as provided by, say, Dosch and Arroway) can't be used?

Check your Indigo/previews folder for the IMPsphere.igs file. It should be there. Also, look for a file called 'autorender.bat' in your indigo folder and post the contents of the file.

Only 3 component jpegs are supported. If you get this error message, you need to convert the image using software like Irfanview or Photoshop.

Thank you, Whaat, I'll do that when I get home tonight.

As for 3 components jpegs, I'm not sure what those are.

Googling the expression didn't help much.

Quote from TBD on SketchUcation forums:
because WebDialogs are not using the default browser installed on the user machine, but instead a Internet Explorer shell (the same that you see when viewing .chm files for example) on Windows version.
biebel,

I haven't figured out why this it not working for you. You are using the same OS that I used to test the dialogs. Maybe you have some security software on your system that is blocking the javascript. Or maybe, you made a mistake when installing SkIndigo. Again, check the Ruby Console window for error messages. Thanks.

Being a noob, my best guess is that "3 part jpegs" are RGB, while the one I was using must have been CMYK.

Seems I got some reading up to do. :!:

Another idea. Go to Internet explorer tools->Internet Options and make sure you are allowing active content to run in files on My Computer.
