Time Machine IS NOT System Restore. Time Machine is one of the best features apple has added to OS X.
I still hate it though.

Well, hey, whatever makes you happy. Personally, I use vista because im an avid gamer. Still, I can't wait to make the switch to Win7. I heard it was better in just about every way.

Having the bar always on top is best UI wise, it's always there and faster to reach, homogeneization is fundamentaly good so you don't have to learn tons of ways of doing exactly the same thing...neo0. wrote:Vista isn't exactly the dream come true that microsoft sold it as, but I'd take it any day over Mac OS. The mac dock bar is a fundamentally flawed concept. Sure, in terms of visuals, it puts windows' time honored task bar, but it tries to do too much with too little space. Combining running program with the available programs seems to be overshooting a bit. Also, it might just be me, the way the interface distinguishes between the two is pretty confusing At my college, the library has macs in them and im often left puzzled about what is a running app and what is just a program that can be run. Im not a fan of the way that mac handles application instances either. Window does it logically, combining them and only displaying them when needed. It is just you
What else.. what else.. Oh yeah, the top bar gets me every time. With PCs every app looks distinct, but with macs, they try to homogenize everything with the top bar. Again, it's confusing imo. That bar also help to clarify the currently selected application, which is what makes the experience so ambiguous for me.

That's just the thing. Programs aren't the same thing. Programs function different depending on their purpose.Having the bar always on top is best UI wise, it's always there and faster to reach, homogeneization is fundamentaly good so you don't have to learn tons of ways of doing exactly the same thing...

well, then I guess mac doesn't have 3D modelling software, screen capture, video recording, streaming media recorders, flash video downloaders, photo editing, sound recording, screen widgets, anti spyware, etc. Because all these function very differently.

streaming media recorders: http://all-streaming-media.com/record-v ... ftware.htm
flash video downloaders: this is a sub category of the above...
photo editing: Photoshop ... how'd you miss that srsly?
sound recording: http://all-streaming-media.com/record-a ... c-OS-X.htm
screen widgets: who cares ?
anti-spyware: no need there are practically no viruses for macs.

Guess wrong... there's lot of common things in these actions, AFAIK even on windows there's some common ground, like Windows themselves, despite all this applications they still operate on windows dont they? And if they all have menus better having all in the same place, that my friend is consistency and it's good for your health (mental)neo0. wrote:well, then I guess mac doesn't have 3D modelling software, screen capture, video recording, streaming media recorders, flash video downloaders, photo editing, sound recording, screen widgets, anti spyware, etc. Because all these function very differently.

"Latest" windows build.

"Latest" osx (intel) build

"Latest" osx (PPC) build
Obviously all of these are missing chunks of Blender but you can get a good feel of it. I'm pretty sure any of the option in the "hidden" panel are still missing as well as most/all modifiers, but you can do some basic modelling (extrusions, ...). gl hf

ne0 you are just demonstrating again the fundamental problem with your view of the world. Just because you don't understand the Mac OS interface doesn't make it bad or evil. It just means you are lacking some knowledge. Knowledge takes time to acquire via applying your brain in learning mode. Belittling something because of your own ignorance just highlights said ignorance.
Two of the computing world's most loved OSes, and I mean loved (does anyone actually love windows?), have employed the context sensitive menu bar design; Amiga OS and Mac OS. They both have it terribly wrong do they?
If you like Windows. Use Windows. Just because you choose(?) to use Windows doesn't give you the right, nor invite the need, to push that decision on others. Or perhaps this kind of activity is just born out of a subconscious unhappiness with ones own choice(?) which therefore causes oneself to constantly attempt to justify it in the quest for inner peace.
Anyway sorry to continue OT on this thread.

A video made by VenomGFX (who's participated in YoFrankie and releasing a training DVD next month)
It's about the animation system somewhat and a few neat features
I was highly impressed.

In fact it can be used to restore the complete system. I had to do it, and it worked great. Just plug in an external drive and let Time Machine do the rest.handsomedave wrote:Time Machine IS NOT System Restore. Time Machine is one of the best features apple has added to OS X.

I don't think that any backup solution was that easy before. It would be nice to have more options, of course. But for that, I would choose a professional solution. But I simply don't need one.

Never said it couldn't be used to restore the entire system. Just that its not Windows System Restore. Time machine is so much better.
