color me completely clueless

Post by scatman » Thu Jun 11, 2009 12:21 pm

Hello, all.
I'm utterly frustrated and confused, so I created an account on this forum in the effort to get some help. I've been using blender since about the year 2000. I've been using Indigo/blendigo (for the easy and excellent caustics) since about 2007 (or maybe 2008). I'm not a complete noob.
For whatever reason(s), I CAN'T GET BLENDIGO 2.0.6 TO INSTALL WITH BLENDER VERSION 2.49 NO MATTER WHAT I TRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
Can someone please make a step by step tutorial (video would be nice) showing how to install blender 2.4.9 with indigo 2.0.6 and blendigo 2.0.6

Thanks in advance,
scatman

1. Download Indigo 2.0.6 for windows 32-bit
2. Run the indigo installer
3. Download Blendigo 2.0.6
4. Run the blendigo installer
5. Start blender
6. Look for 'render with indigo' under the render menu

Where do you have the problem? Step 6?

Also you need Python 2.5.* to run Blendigo
Check normals, dude!

Thanks for all of your replies. I've tried again today (Thurs. 6/11/09). Here's what I did:

All 3 downloads (blender2.4.9, indigo2.6.0 and blendigo2.6.0) were scanned for viruses prior to installation

1. downloaded the blender 2.49 zip archive; extracted it to my normal location:
C:\blendeRender\blender vers\blender2.49...blender finds python 2.5.2 upon opening, and it functions fine
2. downloaded IndigoRenderer_2.0.6_Setup.exe (32bit for windows) and installed it in my normal location:
C:\Program Files\Downloaded Apps\indigo2.0.6\Indigo Renderer
3. downloaded blendigo-2.0.6.exe (for windows) Blendigo wanted to be install at C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts by default, but I installed it in C:\blendeRender\blender vers\blender2.49\blender-2.49-windows-py25\.blender\scripts\ instead
4. started blender, selected 'render with indigo' and it worked in the default scene (1 cube, 1 light, and 1 camera); HOWEVER, if I load one of my saved scenes in particular (whoIsGod5b.blend), once again I get the dreaded error message: python script error: check console

There must be something in this scene/.blend file that blendigo or indigo doesn't like. I would like to attach the troublesome .blend file to this post so that someone could look at it and help me out, but I don't know which extension to give it so that I can actually attach it. Please help.

Re: color me completely clueless UPDATE

Since my previous post (about 30 mins ago), I get the dreaded python script error: check console message with every attempt at using blendigo2.6.0...even on the default scene (1 cube, 1 camera, 1 light)...even after a reboot. I'm having problems with this version of indigo and/or blendigo on multiple PCs. I'm convinced that this build is just buggy.

AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN'T GET BLENDIGO/INDIGO TO WORK CONSISTENTLY ON A WINDOWS XP 32 BOX?!? :(

Another update...

I just tied in indigo version 1.0.9_3 into blender2.49 and I'm rendering with it as I post this message. I access it the old way: scripts/export/blendigo v1.0.9 (.igs). In fact I'm rendering the same 'whoIsGod5b.blend' file that I mentioned earlier in this string of posts.

Unless someone finds a fix, I guess I'll just have to stick with this older version of Indigo until the kinks get worked out of version 2.0.6. :?

Okay - sounds like you're having a different problem than the original registry bug. Could you paste here the python script errors you get trying to export the scene using 2.0.6?

Thanks for your help. The text that posted below shows the results of 2 different attempts to render with blendigo/indigo2.0.6. The first time resulted in an immediate error, the second time, the blendigo script appeared, but resulted in the python script error after I hit the render button. I hope this helps:

Scatman - could you please zip up a complex scene that won't render and upload it to http://drop.io/ and send me the link ben@indigorenderer.com? I'll squash this bug!

I just dropped the zipped whoIsGod5b.blend.zip file...I think. If not I'm willing to email it. Also remember, it's not just this file that won't render in [bl]indigo, it's pretty much any and every file.
Thanks again. :?
