Click the download button?
No but seriously, you should've searched the forum it's been explained a few times. But I'll explain it yet again.
Go to the materials section. Go to whichever one you want and download it. If it's a .pigm then unzip it. Once unzipped you'll get a .igm (amongst other files) if you didn't have one from the get-go. To use them with your scene, you have to set the material type (in your exporter) to external. And set the right name accordingly.
The name is found in the <name>...</name> tags inside the .igm. To read the .igm just open it in notepad.
That's the gist of it.

That would be a little complex wouldn't it? I mean ... since you'd have to be able to not only download the files but be able to unzip the pigms and such. Unless of course the database is one huge repository file that could be updated once in a while.benn wrote:In the future we want all the plugins to be able to do that. Even to browse the materials database from inside the plugin.

A full db integration might be complex, but pointing to a specific url should not be a problem, it may well be os specific tho. For unzipping I will rely on XP and nix default libs, Maya can manage the os I think but not zips specifically
(edit: indigo_console can be used to pack/unpack it seems). For MtI the user might have to cope with the os method to point to the save folder, then the "plugin" would grab it and operate if the path was the one expected. Actually a download button for an Indigo material in Maya has a super trivial code beneath:

Physicsguy, you need to be more precise on how we could help you. If you click the Download! (chocolate, yummy) link right below the preview image, download should initiate. Does this link work for you ?

Why not call exporters "exporters" ? "Plugins" is sooo generic it sounds rude to me... Whaddya mean, I'm picky !?
