A good carpet material

Post by benn » Thu Aug 20, 2009 7:22 pm

Heya ll,

I'm documenting sketchup a bit - but i can't work out how to create a good carpet rug on a wood flor. So far i've tried making a box that is 2m x 4m and putting a displacement map on the material on the rug - but i end up with white gaps at the seams of the box - do I need to subdivide the box first or something?

Has someone got a good carpet material they can post?

Ben

Hi Benn!
Do you remember my leather chair render whith the comic as a wallpaper? Tha one had a small carpet carved into the floor ( ). I just made a box, very very thin but a box, and then applied one of the sketchup preset fabric mats. Then I gave it a little displacement and it worked very well. Gonna do some tests, though.

Hi Benn
to get rid of the gaps you have to smoothe the edges of the box.
otherwise the displaced material is not connected at the corners.

Thiloo thank you! I worked out how to do a carpet in sketchup now - it looks quite good. :) Now to document all these...
