That's at least what I think.
Exactly what I think!!!

Blender 2.5 is supposed to support API, right? So they should start learning to script in API, I guess, as it has has greater capabilities than Python, from what I understand.

An API is not a language. It's a unified way to communicate with a program using a programming language. In Blenders case it is Python. Isn't it going to be Python 3.0 in 2.5 btw?

Look, if the exporter script is about to be rewritten anyway, it is completely stupid to do it for 2.49. It will take months to make the new script, and months for testing and getting it stable. And then when it is finished and ready for prime time use, Blender 2.5 will be finished and ready too and everybody will migrate to that... And remember the API will of course be fully defined and finished way before Blender 2.5 is officially released, so all the devs can have their scripts ready for the release.

No, forget 2.49.

No need for an apology we are all here to learn. I don't really know that much about this stuff either :-) And you are not entirely wrong in that the exporter coders will have to learn the new API, it's just, it isn't a new programming language.

But I think we can all agree on the fact that this must be enough Blender spamming in this forum for now :-)

Just to complete this one: API stands for Application Programming Interface

I want to thank the Maya users who have contributed to the Indigo August survey; your concern for a better exporter is of course our concern !

Speaking of the Blender Rendering API:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=162364
related thread :)

Also, a few useful links (found inside a fore mentioned thread):
Class UI layout
Class Main

I have no idea how to use this but maybe it'll be useful to somebody else :) I took this from ideasman's post.

I want to build a blendigo 2.5 exporter asap, but today i'm fighting the horror that is internet explorer (in regards to the sketchup webdialogs).

Blendigo 2.5 will have:

* igmesh support
* material db integration
* use the native render api

Wee--oo!

Did you ever get the particles to work? If yes, dumb me for asking. If not, why? Is it because it's unfeasible?
