New Indigo Manual

Post by Soup » Thu Jan 14, 2010 9:50 am

The Indigo manual has had quite an upgrade, hopefully this will fill all the gaps that are missing between exporter documentation and the old manual.
This is the latest version so I will be tidying it up and making changes based on feedback, so: feedback! :D
Most importantly, is anything missing that should be in it?
Thanks!

Ehm... not!
It's not the IOR but the Exponent!

Hi Soup

starting to go through it and here are some suggestions:

Pg5: ' Depth of Field – as when a camera is focussed on one object and the background is blurred'
a better definition from Wiki is:
'the depth of field (DOF) is the portion of a scene that appears acceptably sharp in the image'
as Dof doesn't just affect the background or any one object

Pg22: testscenes directory in your Indigo Renderer directory. Open the scene cornellbox_jotero.igs
Check that these are distributed with Indigoas it could just be me but I don't have this scene in my /testscenes directory - in fact I only seem to have 3 scenes in there. I know in older versions there were more - but mine is a new clean install and doesn't - maybe check with Ono?

Pg24:To zoom in or out on the image, click on the rendering frame and press + to zoom in, - to zoom out and press 0 to reset to the 1:1 zoom level
Add that, under windows anyway, you can also use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in/out
cont....

Cont.....

Pg31: EV The exposure value can range from -6 to +16
The GUI allows +/-20

Pg32:To see the effect of all the response functions, please refer to the chart available at:
http://indigorenderer.com/documentation/

Leads to the main documentation page - not a specific chart of camera responses

Pg36: maybe add a warning that Aperture Diffraction increases dramatically the amount of RAM used?

Pg40:To get a feel for Indigo – click Open Scene and browse to the testscenes directory in your Indigo Renderer directory. Open the scene cornellbox_jotero.igs.
again check that this scene is distributed with Indigo as I don't have it.

Pg48:See Indigo toolbar for full descriptions.
The link doesn't work for me

Pg49:See Medium.
Link doesn't work for me

Pg52:a Texture, or a shader.

Texture links works - shader link doesn't

Cont:

Pg58 & Pg59:Common attributes: Albedo, Bump, Displacement, Base Emission,Emission, Layer
Emission link doesn't work for me

Pg59:Common attributes: Internal Medium
link doesn't work for me

Pg61:Common attributes: Albedo, Exponent, Bump, Displacement, Base Emission, Emission, Layer
Exponent and Emission Links don't work for me

Ok stopping at page 61  will try and check the rest later

BTW really good - I found the section on materials very clear and I learned a lot , wouldn't be hard as I don't know that much :P

Finally my Camera-Response-Pillows found their way into some useful document ^^

I think for "Subdivide" on page 74 you mixed up the text under the two TeaPots :P

Great.
In the "aperture diffraction" chapter I think you should mention that its visibility is strictly related to aperture, and maybe post some exemples showing how the same image is rendered using different f/stops.
