I agree. .blend works fine for Blender even in Windows environments and .indigo would be unambiguous.

What about material descriptions and such ? Maybe 4 or 5 letters would be enough, unambiguous and all that jazz...
.igsc, .igi(m), .igmat etc

Ok. Still .indigo could be for the scene description ascii (xml) file, something like .indmat for materials and .indmsh for mesh files.
