I am sure indigo would be more inviting to new users if it was possible to download a bunch of finished scenes for max/blender/maya which you can then learn from. Also, more materials in the materials database is always welcome.

i think, if inidigo GUI was more integrated with the indigo site and had in and of itself an editor for the scene files, this would make things mroe convinent and easy

Theoretical idea that actually isn't too hard to do:
Your rendering and you notice "Oh GOD! i switched two materials, the chair should not look like water!" - you click a button and then click the object in the picture (each pixel maps back to what it hit) and it jumps strait to the code in the scene file.
Yes i know, my spelling sucks

Can actually quite easily be done with OGL :)

I think that making all of the exporters have the same interface should be a major objective for you guys. They are not really similar right now, which is unusual.

The objective in a plugin exporter should be seamlessly integrate with it's host, since the host themselves are very different they should also be different.

Indeed. But there are still a lot things that could and should be standardized. Whaat is putting a lot of effort in this at the moment and you can expect that this will happen.

Unified material editor with a real time previewing + photoshop style color picker.
  • Preview starts rendering as soon as you change something. Can scale material preview size with one of the 3 options : hotkey, scrollwheel, and graphical slider.
  • Real time adjustment of bump and displacement maps
    ]/*:m]
  • Can export material to exporter or material Db.
  • Graphical icons for better usability.
  • Subtle UI animations, like menu bars sliding down.
  • Canvas style wokspace that displays all current materials as a set of material previews.
  • User option to set how many spp materials render for.
  • Manipulate blend maps visually in a flexible system that allows for multiple blend maps to be easily layered on top of each other and manipulated.
  • Easy access to constituent materials that comprise said blend materials. Clicking one should pop open another window with it's properties.
A choice of a few different color themes.

Blender style UI manipulation where you could, for example, pull out the tone mapping tab into it's own panel and move it around your workspace "organically."

The ability to swap out materials in real time. Click on an object then then a menu pops out with thumbnails of all available materials.

Maybe even adjusting materials in real time?

Can we please set our own default render save location.Maybe have indigo use a config file or store the info in windows registry (not sure where you'd store it for Linux/Mac though :? )

While I understand your trying to follow convention/good programming practice and ease of use for noobies this software is also aimed at pro's.

And this 'pro' wants to save his data somewhere other than the system default. I have been saving my data for the last few years on a separate raided drive. If the boot/system drive goes belly up I can reinstall and be back inbusiness in 1-2 hours.

Microsoft never really thought through there default user locations. If your store all your stuff in /user directories on the system drive and it goes poof - you lose the lot.

Though I do appreciate the new option in /tools to go to the render folder it doesn't solve this for me.

This is a big issue with me - I hate programs telling that they know better!

BTW: I'm now off for a 2 week break - I expect all these items to added to 2.0.11 by the time I get back

An option to enable one igs per scene... Few people want to save a few versions of their scene for the sake of experimentation and exploration, but most people have one version that they progress and resume from.
