Doug: Well, it works well for me, there are more advantages than disadvantages regarding my workflow.
There are things missing like StompingTom said, but there are python-scripts available to restore missing features from 2.49. Although I don't use any of them except for Beveling.
And the new tool operators for modelling are great, compare Spin 2.5 to the spin available in 2.4x!
The first time I started using it there were some serious bugs, but it's pretty stable now.
Didn't use the particle system except for some simple situations and it worked well there.
Reading the Blender-commit mailinglist I can see that heavy bug fixing is going in, especially at particle systems.
Blender 2.4x doesn't really have any benefits compared to 2.5 for me (exceptions: exportscripts like blendigo),
but maybe I'm a biased user since I tend to just fix occuring bugs by myself.

I also just wanted to step in for a second and say I'm really eager to trying out a 2.5 exporter. A good integrated exporter will likely be the deciding factor on wether or not I buy a license for Indigo.

Keep up all your great work Dougal!

ok nevermind i sorta figured it out. there are two maybe three places that it seems might be a good place to put it. one gives me no error message and no button(users/appdata/roaming/blender foundation/blender/.blender/scripts). the other gives me this big long error message(users/appdata/roaming/blender foundation/blender/2.56/scripts). then there is this other place i could put the scripts (user/blender foundation/blender/2.56/python):

found bundled python: C:\Users\RSFutch\BLENDE~1\Blender\2.56\python

please help! btw im on windows 7. where do i put the scripts?

The Blendigo exporter for 2.5 is a bit older and may not at all work with the Blender 2.56 beta that has been released just a few days ago. Blendigo relies on Blender's Python API and as stated in their release logs "The Python API has had some extensive changes"

Let's hope for a stable release of Blender soon! It's a bit of a hassle to switch between Blender versions just for the purpose of Indigo. While I like the new interface of Blender, there are still some tools missing that were present in Blender 2.49a.

The knife tool is still not so useful and I miss the proportionality settings when creating edge loops. A real downer is that filling the area between two selected edge loops still also not work (grumble, grumble........ )

You shouldn't need to do anything special. Just install the correct version of Python from here, http://www.python.org/download/ , and run its setup. When you next load blender it should just work  . Make sure your using the right python version as well as right bit type - ie if your using a 32bit version of blender make sure your python is 32bit as well and vice versa for a x64 setup. For Blender 2.49b x64 I am using Python 2.6.1 x64 on Win7 and was easy to setup. Hope this helps

So what is the current status or plans to bring the 2.5 exporter further? Is the plan waiting for a release candidate of blender 2.5 ?

(Im really getting tired switching between 2.5 and 2.49)

I'm working on it! I am in part waiting for a stable 2.5, so that there's a stable base for everyone to install the exporter into - but also I'm waiting for a couple of little Indigo updates which will make the exporter much easier to live with.
I can't give an exact date for release, but hopefully it won't be too long now...

I've followed the instructions on the first page, re-started blender and even my computer, but indigo doesn't appear in the Engine drop-down menu :? Any idea what might be going on here? Thanks.

The betas in this thread are now completely out of date and won't work.

I am still working on completing the exporter, and I hope to reveal it to the world when the next major version of Indigo comes out. I'm working with Glare to ensure that this exporter will include some of the fabulous new features that will be available in the next version - but for now I am not allowed to reveal any information about it
