User interface updates and progress
Re: User interface updates and progress
Ok, it's not directly related to UI, but it somewhat goes under this topic.
I'd like to see a possibility to save and load Light layer settings. Even to some ASCII file or something.
That would really make finding good lighting situation more convenient.

Replace the standard up and down arrow buttons with something a little more interesting. Also, add rounded edges to the input boxes. Godzilla had a great design for it but I dont know where it went.
When you expand settings such as "Mode configuration" it should gently slide out. So, in other words subtle animation.

Hmm, I think the ratios are way better than a bunch of digits like 16.666%Godzilla wrote:Would you mind changing the ratios in the zoom drop down to percents? it would be much more intuitive in my opinion.
The way the resizing is done, this makes the image really ugly... it does seem like a good addition however.Godzilla wrote: Also, could you add a 'fit to view' option wherein the larger dimension of the render would fit exactly (With a 5px border, or so) into the view port? This way we would be able to see the entire render more easily.![]()
The updated GUI has gone live in the 2.4.4 beta. The tonemapping changes are perhaps the most important ones that still need doing, and will definitely be worked on soon

It does make the image display oddly, but its a necessary option in my opinion..lycium wrote: The way the resizing is done, this makes the image really ugly... it does seem like a good addition however.

Could we have the halt option but without indigo actually closing?

Re: User interface updates and progress
I agree with Godzilla that zooming in percentage is more intuitive. Sometimes it confuses me which do I need 2:1 or 1:2 My sugestion of percentages would be. 25,50,75,100,150,200,300 and Fit to window too.
Another change I'd like to see is that Imaging, Render Settings, Light Layers etc would appear in tabs instead of dropdown menu. Something like in 3dsmax command panel on right side. This way users need to make one click less. Somebody should then design understandable icons to those tabs because tab names probably wouldn't fit.
And I think dark theme needs some cosmetics too. All buttons and numeric value squares should be darker. Maybe text colors inverted so they appear light grey.

Wow, how eerie. I was justing thinking of suggesting tabs to replace the drop down.

and while your at it change the term "Reset" to 1:1. Reset must be a worrying term for a new user - took me a while to realise that all it did was reset the zoom!Godzilla wrote:Well, perhaps the zoom options could be something likelycium wrote: Hmm, I think the ratios are way better than a bunch of digits like 16.666%![]()

How about implementing various zooming mode ? There's a preferences window for this
e: I don't really like the image jumping at me at once, I like a fine and linear stepping to focus on zones of interest without the feeling it's wether too much or not enough. IIRC, like the first implementation did.

Hi all,
I've just had an idea. What if the devs could make an competition for new Indigo 4.0 UI?
I think it's no secret that everyone can change stock Indigo icons to their own. That's what I did. I made my own icons. They are not perfect, but to me they look better, newer. I'm working on the dark style, it needs a bit tweaking.
For example look at this new ccleaner (I think most of you use this program) UI. It looks so good.

Re: User interface updates and progress
I'm just glad it looks much cleaner in OS X.
Honestly I think the UI is just fine. If the buttons are easy to update, then sure, but ideally Indigo would be integrated in the different 3D applications and there wouldn't be a need for a fancy, standalone GUI anyway.

Here's how it looks under OS X. Not a big difference obviously, but it has a slicker look overall IMO.

Re: User interface updates and progress
When I first started using Indigo, I was kinda sad it had such a UI, and coming from progs like Vue, Maxwell, etc., who had amazing UIs did not help either. But, in time I got used to it, and now I am like, give me whatever you want guys, just let me play with it to the max.
