Disappearing Material Editor - OSX

Post by sidewalk » Sun Dec 20, 2009 3:23 pm

OSX 10.5.8; Indigo 2.0.12; SkIndigo 2.2.9

I'm having a strange issue with the Material Editor window. Something's preventing the window from appearing - but it's only happening in certain files after I've been working in them for a while - and only after I've previously had the Material Editor open in that file. Once a file is "infected", the window is impossible to bring up, no matter what method I try. It almost seems like the window is open off-screen somewhere, and relocating it back on-screen might be all that needs to happen, I'm not sure. Restarting SketchUp doesn't help, nor does a reboot. In new files, the Material Editor opens just fine, even when they are open at the same time as the "infected" files.

I use Expose and Spaces to navigate through open windows quite often. At first I thought this might be the problem, but I'm having trouble reproducing the effect.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Any error messages in the Ruby Console window when you try to open the material editor?

Yes, actually. It gives this report:

Could the problem have something to do with the "Make Unique Texture" command in SketchUp?

I noticed that the Material Editor doesn't recognize materials created this way in SketchUp. Also, the "infection" seems to take place after I've used this command to create a new material. If I remove that particular material, save the file, quit SketchUp, then reopen the file, the file seems to be "healed" and the material editor opens as it should.

Very interesting....that could very well be the issue. Anyway, I think I should have this fixed for the 2.2 stable release (coming soon). I will have to test this out though. Thanks for the tip!

Disappearing Material Editor OSX

I am unclear about your response. Basically, the problem is that you have to manually take each material and put it on the wire frames manually in the Unreal Map Editor. This can be laborious.

Also, when I open up the models in Blender from Sketchup that are in 3ds Max format. The materials are all gone. How do I recover the materials?

Thanks
