Using etched metal on a sphere

Post by neo0. » Tue Jul 21, 2009 5:48 pm

I made a blend mat with a metal/image of the indigo logo. How would I go about using it on a spher? Can su use textures on curved surfaces?

Hey Neo0!
The problem here is the lack of UVmapping possibilities allowed by sketch...
I know there is a way to map a cylinder (not so accurate, btw...), but the only way I know you can map a sphere is to download a small script by Whaat (free, I think) which is called something like UVmapper.rb (I don't remember very well)..
Though it's an attempt to make some kind of mapping script, it is still very rough, and does not provide many possibilities to the mapping (scaling, adjusting, etc..).

Try this:
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtop ... it=uvtools. However, you won't be able to render it in Indigo unless all the faces of the sphere are triangles.

Would it be possible to do something like "hold x key down while moving mouse left and right which makes texture rotate around central y axis (as if each object had it's own y axis)." Maybe even a disable tiling button?
