Metallic foil//carpaint//plastics

Post by neo0. » Sun Feb 15, 2009 4:06 pm

You know how those Christmas ornaments look? The colored ones? If you can image colored tin foil.. Thats what im after. :)

I haven't had much luck mixing nk with diffuse so far..

Wax would also make a nice contribution imo

Transparent plastic. Notice that, unlike glass there isn't much of a fresenl effect and there is hardly any reflection.

Colored foil : just choose your color and assign the "Metals" type. Don't check the "NKdata" box.
Car paint : isn't the "Car paint" preset working ? You can adjust the shinyness by either playing with IoR or Exponent.

Plastic & Jade : there's SSS in there...

OH MY GOD!
DUDE!
THESE ARE THE SIMPLEST MATERIALS YOU CAN THINK OF...

Okay seriously... if you don't want "much of a fresenl effect" just choose a low IoR or blend the phong with diffuse.
Carpaint is in the mat db, as we told you two times in other threads before.
Wax is just plain colored SSS, play with the settings and don't get on our nerves instead!

About the plastic box: watch the lighting setup for the picture, you can also tell that the exponent is rather high and that the ior is not that low (you can see a light source reflected on the right handle). SSS powa, just like wax.

Well but I think what neo0. wants to demonstrate is not that Indigo is missing these materials, but that the mat db is. The mat db is mainly for people who don't want, or can't do things by themselves. Sometimes just because they are artists (who knows :D).

Yep, you got it. Im sure indigo can do these, I just wanted to get this out there, because they would come in handy. The more mats available, the better..

I guess that neo0 is telling something between the lines, Pure... I'll think more on uploading materials in the future. I mean, that can happen to anyone.

Im not even sure skindigo supports exporting materials. I think I remember what saying that it wasn't possible to save materials. Even if it does, Indigo's materials still lack documentation beyond the technical syntax of igm code, which makes learning much slower. Im still in the process of learning indigo's materials through trial and error... Indigo might be easy to use, but the shader system is pretty deep, giving you a lot of possibilties to run through...:)

There's nothing between the lines. Indigo simply needs a wider variety of materials. I would contribute where I can, but all the simpler materials (shiny plastic) are already done and in the skindigo presets.

materials save just fine in Skindigo. and if you know about the presets in skindigo why are you asking for a car paint?

sharing materials is great but until you have as many users that Fry or Maxwell have the db isn't going to be that big.

and why would you ask eulgrand to share the material if he told you how to do it?
it's ONE click next to the use nkdata option. ONE

asking for a more populated matdb is one thing, posting up all those images from another renderer is not helpful.

just click the button and see if it works.... Saving materials has never been broken in SkIndigo
