In the last file uploaded it's clicked.

The preview seems good, so the problem comes probably from the model or the lighting or anything else than the material.

I confirm, it's black because there is nothing to see behind, and perhaps also because of the light.

With a sun, and no cubes exit and specular, it works.

(I changed the glass model but i don't think it change anything).

yeah but you put a sun light....i dont want a sun thing.

EDIT: but then it seems to be my only option. I'll try to find a work around to get my original "style/feeling" back.

It seems that the SSS cube was the reason for the problem. I'll take it away for now and see about adding it at a later time.

Alright. So for now SSS cube is removed from scene. I didn't do much since I spent most of my time trying to find what went wrong, but I added a little metallic border at the bottom to hide the seam between the tiles and the outdoor building, and I fixed the tile size (I might make them a tad smaller still but that remains to be seen).

oh, I know exactly what happened: your SSS cube and your glass had the exact same precedence setting.

Put the cube back in with a precedence of 1 and try again :)

Perhaps the SSS value was to strong. Try 7.10^-3 as in the exemple. In my present work it gives good results.

@zsouthboy: Thanks it worked great.
@Vincer: i used something similar yeah

I uv mapped the exterior of the building (or at least, the visible part of the outer building, well outer walls wtv). Now I'm looking for some red wallpaper for the interior walls.

Ok so here's a somewhat big update. I changed the lighting quite much, and I think it looks better/more realistic. Added a tunnel to a currently nonexistent building. And I modified the camera settings a tad.

Weirdly though after 15-20 min, the render window goes black. And I have no idea why. Anyway this is what it looked like before going black.

Nice update! I'm not sure why the render window would go black though.

Yeah me neither. If anyone wants to try it, here's all of what you should need.

Did you use reinhard? the going-black-issue usually goes away if you switch to linear/camera ;)

Yes I did. It's default and I never changed it because ... well I don't touch "big red buttons that i dont know what they do"

I temporarily had fixed it by Poly reducing my scene, but I didn't really like that fix, so I'm rendering it again with Linear and lowering the setting on the sun lam because it was waaaaaayyyyy too strong. Anyway here's how it looked with Reinhard :

looks/ed great :)
Well, camera-tonemapping is best but you need to search through the profiles to find one which fits your scene best...

There once was a nice thread, testing out all of them...
