Hi all! This promises to be a LOOONG wip, guys...
Recently hooked by the water pool issue, i made a search through 3D warehouse to find an already modeled decent pool to try caustics with. It turns out that there are very few files with a simple pool modeled only..but a LOT with all the environment around!
So, after a little choose, i picked one with lots of stuff around, to have an architectural environment.
The scene appears to be well detailed, although not of my architectural style at all. I just purged ALL the native mats (a hundred or near), and substituted the background low-poly trees with instances of the new betula sample tree by xfrog found on the net. Obviously, this import caused the addition of some materials, and the increase of file size (from original 9 MB to around 25 now..). Oh, and there were lots of back-sided faced, too. The water pool solid mesh is now missing, but i plan to add it in due course.
I also found that, where the original model had the glass, it only had one face, so i think the use of Thin Glass shader is a must this time, at least for doors and/or windows..
So, what else? If i'm patient enough, and with the help of you all, i think it'll come out an interesting scene!
PS. The model is not a "project" of mine, so if anyone wants to experiment things with it ask me, and i'll upload the SKP scene in an online storage space so anyone can download. I'd love to see the same scene rendered by other (sketchup) users with total different materials!

I'm interested because many times I have tried to render a nice water with caustic and many times I looked in the real world when them works and where, and I noticed that them don't appear so often, because there are three factor: 1 the water noise; 2 the angle between the light source and the water surface, and (for underwater caustic), the deepness of the "container".

Nice start Pibuz.
You know it's not my cup of tea architecture wise either but I understand why you picked this model as it has detail , overhangs and such which have the potential to provide a nice play of light and shadow.
It's cool that you start off with a clay render to test light situations.
This one's interesting to follow the progress on.
Surprise us!

ok, guys..
After all this support i feel a little scared for the future...
I warn you i'm VERY slow (perhaps as the Doctor
) but i'll put a great effort here for sure! Thank you
PS. CpFresh: do you know an easy-to-upload online storage? Now, i'm home and it's kinda late, but tomorrow morning i surely can upload the file, if you want!

no rush Pibuz, as you always upload quality, your images are worth the wait. and thanks in advance for sharing this scene!
