yeah, more or less...
though, distance can't be negative. so, it's: 1/1.618 or 0.618/1 (if you use a calculator, you should get nearly the same result. Though, the values are rounded, so that there will be slight differences)

1,61803398874989484820458683436564
and
-0,61803398874989484820458683436564
if you want more decimals :P

oh, and I wrote +/-1 instead of +/-sqrt(5), so, of you put in that, in the calculator, it's +0,61803398874989484820458683436564 :)

indeed, by far!
Though, the reflection on the edge looks strange, as it intersects with the white line ^^
You don't need to change it, it's ok, anyway :)
Now, the guitar looks far bigger and gets all the focus. Great!

The only thing, you could do, would be, to play a bit with the DoF, so that parts of the guitar already are slightly blurred and also the amplifier slightly blurs. :)

I suggest black fret markers though it's just my personal taste .

Thanks guys, I'm not going to mess with dof because I don't really know how to use it. That's one of my next thing to test/learn about. Now I'm going to finish a car I've been working on for awhile.

Hey doublez...

Through the Evermotion Newsletter I just saw a nice guitar rendering.
I thought sharing this with some short comments about the picture composition

here an example for some very sexy close Up with nice DOF

here you can see how easily a picture can be composed nicely just by some interesting lightning...

finally a more classic shot, but still interesting by the very low position of the camera here . Some subtle DOF blur, and a nice contast from super reflective polished guitar to a dirty concrete Wall in the back...

Give it a go and play around with DOF, check out some (photographic) tutorials, its an very powerful tool in an 3D artists Hand.
Its also not that complicated... tweaking is also always involved, its not about learn to do a perfect first shoot with DOF blur ;-)

Thanks zomb. I have a good idea of what the settings do, but I just need some practice.
