Hi Indigoers,
After some fumbling, tweaking and helpful suggestions by Kadajawi and Psor, I've finished putting together my little website, also uploading more images to the gallery in the past two days. I'd be really grateful if you could take the time to take a quick look and let me know what you think. The site is "dressed" as a commercial site, but the main objective is just to have a small, permanent online presence where I can easily point people to for examples of my stuff. It's still very much a hobbyist's site and I'm not advertising it in any way (outside here, that is).

PS: I'm also thinking of perhaps using this to host my texture collection, which I haven't updated for ages. Comments and suggestions on this also very welcome.

Thanks a lot Phrostbyte. I'll be working more on this little thing (never built a site before and this is still highly puzzling to me...) Any suggestions on improving the site and presentation much welcome.

looks pretty good for a first site!

The only thing I would suggest is to use something like the thickbox library to show your images from thumbnails, rather than just linking to the plain image.

It's pretty easy to set up, an example of where I've used it is here:

Thanks Dougal. You're right about that. It definitely looks a lot more professional. When I say I'm a website noob, though, I really mean it. I've been using Yahoo's Sitebuilder to put this together (shame on me) and I don't believe it allows me to use this tool. Or does it?

did you actually write any HTML code? Do you have access to put in your own lines of code?

if so, you need to upload and link a javascript file and stylesheet in the <head> section.
You nee the jquery and thickbox scripts, and the thickbox stylesheet.

and then on your image links you need to add a "thickbox" class

that's it.

No I didn't have to write any code. Would have been utterly incapable.

Bertrand, i must admit, it's one of the most astonishing gallery i've seen during my CG experience. A great repository for inspirations and emotions. Also, being unknown how many how them are indigo's sons, i think it's one of the best showcase of Indigo features and potentials.

One note only... i'd change the font making less anonymous and more appropriate to the overall quality.

I would say 95 per cent of the images are Indigo. There are one or two Fry renders which I had friends do for me based on the Indigo scene. (Those where you cannot do without displacement). And the landscapes are done in Terragen2. So yes, it's pretty much an Indigo-only gallery.

The font is one thing that's bothering me. But it's a limitation that's inherent in using such a noob site-builder. I'm thinking about using images for the text though, which would give me nice, more personal (and anti-aliased) text.

My only crit concerning the site would be the same as Dougal said, it's not very elegant to link directly pictures, the pictures are coldy presented, uncentered, with a ugly white frame by the browser.
Moreover, it forces the viewer to use the "back" button of his browser.

The rest of the site is nice.

Thanks guys. I'm glad to see the things that bother me are also the things that bother you. I'll see what this little software I'm using can do in terms of giving the images a better show.
What do you guys think of hosting the textures there with a proper presentation?

All of your work is simply stunning. You definitely need to find a nicer, less basic font. And having image buttons for your main links (your idea) sounds like a good idea. And I concur with those who've said about the direct link to the images. The thumbnail galleries might be nicer if they were more centered too. But you are the master of composition
