yeah thanks for your work Whaat :D

btw I started altering the blendigo script and your exporter a while ago to support 2 different sets of previews (so you can use both Sketchup and Blender for the same Indigo install.) - I called the folders BLpreviews and SUpreviews.
I think this is a useful enhancement but given my general success rate here others may not

Thank you Whaat.
This is not the skindigo version containing those webdialogues you showed us earlier right?...Or did I miss something .

Anyway....I am trying it as we speak and it sure does look solid.
Great work.

Amazing how easy the workflow has become. Really well streamlined.
What I love the most about the plugin is the fact that material assignment is blazingly fast using context click a surface and choosing a preset.

Here's a first shot:

Image

A hickup i ran into with this rendering:
How can I avoid having black outlines on phong objects?
It looks as if the Fresnel effect is calculated wrong at tangential angles.
Do I need to change parameters of the phong?

Another issue: I try to render another SU file which is big (63 Mb) but exporting to Indigo 'bugsplats' Sketchup by saying "Out of memory".
I have 2Gb Ram installed. Can I avoid this memory problem in any way?
Maybe by exploding nested groups/components?

Cheers and again superb work Whaat !!! :)

kiwistenbiebel: you never hat such artefacts, before? You're using Indigo long enough, to know, that those are normal-smoothing issues...
either limit the normal smoothing angle (which will cause edgy appearance) or increase the poly count and smooth out those models....

oh, and if it's phong related and really no normal issues... try to increase the IoR... ;)

Thanks for your answer Kram.
To be honest, I haven't used Indigo last months  and I didn't render any organic forms in Indigo before so this is a new problem to me.

Unfortunately, Sketchup doesn't have a subdivision tool so I am stuck with a low poly model. I already cranked the smoothing values down (to that level the model gets tesselated) so I am not sure how to overcome this.
Would lowering te fresnel value (1 is default) solve the problem?

Cheers,
Kwistenbiebel

is that frenesel value inside the sketchup exporter? If so, I have no idea, as I don't use Sketchup ;) If not, sorry, I don't know, which value you are referring to...

I'd try some external mesh tool like meshlab, it has rather nice remeshing filters. I know it's not really a nice solution, but works.

Like Kram said, the mesh is too low poly. You could try lowering the smoothing angle for all of the edges or 'Disabling Smoothing' from the SkIndigo interface. Not the best solution though because you will see facets. Another idea (probably won't work) is to crank up the exponent to 1 million.

Wow! That's a huge model! Have you had success rendering it with other apps? (Vray, podium, etc.)

I suggest you hide any geometry that is not absolutely necessary to the scene. Are there many component instances in the scene? If so, make sure to enable instancing for your components.

I am not sure what you are trying to export but there must be a way to reduce the size of the exported scene.
