I might give that a shot and see if it works :)

The ubuntu standard method works fine but they are older drivers so it would nice to have the latest and greatest.

Well that was predictable. Building of source packages failed...exactly the same issue I get when trying to do it manually following other guides.

Also the same issues that people running the 64Studio distro have when trying to do it. These scripts and tutorials don't seem to take into account realtime kernels. I watched the process and it did download the correct kernel headers (norm+rt versions) etc. But come build time you just get a crap load of errors about illegal use of various type declarations blah blah blah in the fglrx source and no driver.

Well I have narrowed down the problem. It's not that the driver is incapable of building its that it won't. There is something in the realtime kernel source which is rejecting the fglrx driver due to it not being under the GPL? FFS!!! I don't give a s**t whether its GPLed or not just build the f***king thing!

So I suppose I will have to wait until someone somewhere who is familiar with kernel development etc decides to write a patch to remove whatever the check is... This is particularly annoying because I already know that 64Studio is superior to UbuntuStudio when it comes to jack audio but doesn't come with an 'official' fglrx package at all so your only hope is installing manually which is impossible due to the above...

Oh well back to official ubuntu fglrx.
