yeah strange how it looks different up close, I guess I over did the MPD, well 10cm is alot, but I wanted to be dramatic
1cm would have been better

well here is the 1cm MPD, it looks more like it now, and it renders much faster to boot!
The more MPD the slower it gets. So that's a good thing, keep it realistic and things fall into place
autofocus doesn't seem to be working.....

Your displacement map seems to be a bit low resolution.
Details are a little blurry.

600x600
plus it's been modified with the Fry image map sliders to be more pure black and white. I clamped the dynamic range

Gotcha. 600x600 is way too low for close up shot like this.

That's what the "S" button is for! Fryrender has one. Maxwell does not.
Just to clarify something ... Maxwell supersamples by default. It's not a published fact, but it's a fact nonetheless

Note the lack of orange highlight in the sphere.
Exactly what I was about to say ...

Just messed around with the demo a little, with Sketchup and Skindigo is a heck of a lot easier to use. Also, I can't find any sort of Tut for Fryrender, is there one? Is it possible to use sketchup materials with Fryrender? as it is, it replaces my skp material with a fryrender material.

The manual for fryrender+Sketchup is in the fryrender plugins manual.pdf that is included with the setup. See pages 54-60.
Fryrender does not auto-convert Sketchup materials in the scene itself unless you tell it to. It does auto-convert them on export.

well it does change you object's material colours after you edit a FRY material....
does it in C4D
if my object is white I don't want it black after I change something in the fry Material editor...
I have to undo everytime to fix this

I just had a quick play with Fryrender myself just to confirm a suspicion from the previous "missing path" post.
I took the standard cornell box scene, made the left and right walls perfect mirrors and the two boxes green-reflecting mirrors. Here's the result after 10 mins on a Core Duo laptop...
Can anyone else see what's conspicuous by its absence?
I can understand if specularly-viewed sun caustics are deliberately switched off but conventional emitters with relatively high surface area?

A quick "spot the difference" contest...
The fryrender GUI clearly shows the "Full render" option being paths of the form E[S|D]*L but, looking at the above, I'd say that it's definitely lacking ES+DS+L. How bizarre... it can't exactly claim to be "unbiased" then can it?

IanT:
Interesting.
Note that it took me entirely _too_ long to figure out the difference you were reporting (then I finally noticed the big, missing caustic - you know, the obvious one? yeah. that one.)
I agree that ESDSL is missing.EDIT: for that caustic only - which is what confuses me.EDIT2: nevermind - take a look at the mirrored ball - the caustic is missing there too.

Hehe, I also spent __too__ long trying to fix the material on the mirrored wall (thinking I'd got some of the fresnel settings wrong) until I realised that it was dark purely because it wasn't reflecting a significant portion of the scene illumination.
I think this might explain Fryrender's perceived speed ... because it's cheating.
I'm guessing Frances won't be leaping in to reply to this one...

Did it ever occur to you that it might be a bug? WTF is with this "cheating" bullshit?
