How to focus an image

Post by Vancliff » Sat Jun 23, 2007 2:37 am

I have done several renderings with maxigo but they come out of focus. I am using a free camera and selected autofocus in the maxigo panel options

The measure are in real scale of meters. Everything is floating, my mistake but i want to correct the focus first.

I don't use Max but i know what the problem is.

When you use autofocus, Indigo shoots a ray from the camera and measures how long it gets and makes that the focus distance.

In this case it hits the wall in the background.

There's two things you have to take care of here:

First: Find the right focus distance. I don't know if there's some function to do it in the Max exporter, but in Blendigo, you can select an object and tell it to make the distance to that object, the focus distance.

If not, you have to type it manually.

And second: You might want to raise the "F-Stop".
The higher your f-stop is, the more blurred will things, that are not in focus be.

I hope it helped.

a third thing - dunno, if that's still the same:
if the ray exactly hits an Edge, it will continue: Indigo - as far, as I know - doesn't use Edges...
but I don't think, that's the case, here: you can see, that the back wall is sharp :)

Just uncheck AutoFocus and use camera target to focus on things.
And also what Simon told about F-Stop is correct.
