maybe try a lower rotational speed, so the bottom of the swirl would be closed (at least much thinner), it's not really obvious it's a swirl right now... other than that, rendering and baking resolution look ok to me :)

Edit: btw, blender's fluid sim looks amazingly stable

Ok, I'll try a bit slower rotation once I get my new system up and running. Hopefully it should bake much faster than it did with the old RAM.

w00t! I have my new system! :D I did a 4000 x 4000 Blender Internal render of a model with about 0.6 M polys, and it shaved 10 minutes off of the render time on my old 2.4 Ghz P4! I'm getting the wireless internet set up later today, so Indigo tests are still to come.

[Edit] I'm doing a week long dogsitting job in May that will give me enough money to buy this case. Should keep my CPU icy cool!

Okay, I'm baking at res 75 right now. If it's successful, tomorrow night I'll try res 80. I'll keep going in increments of 5 until the simulation fails.

Sorry for the slightly larger video than last time, I haven't installed Xvid again on my computer yet. Compression is avi jpeg.

Oookaaay !!! Try to get a balance between resolution and speed of motion, I understand you are testing your system but realisation is about -compromises-

Go the higher you can, then step back !

My 2 (two) cents.

Yes, it is a huge compromise, I realize that. If I had my way, I would make it 250 resolution. I'm just trying to see how much resolution I absolutely have to give up to make a vortex. I'll also see how much speed I can give up and keep a vortex.

great :D
But I think, it should be highest possible, none the less, as long, as the geometry can still be loaded in indigo.
when you already get a HUGE resolution, you also should try to build a kd-tree... It may stop 'cause the kd-tree has a timeout.
