Try pointing it at the sun and see if you get some lens flares :)

If that is possible, then it would be the coolest thing after inventing the GI rendering.
Is it possible? At least theoretically?

Can't wait either :D
Can you use higher poly lenses?
They're edgy @ edges...

Looks great, through!

i have subsurfed them this time, but they still look a little edgy. I'm not too worried about that though.

One thing I have realised is that in order to get a nice "off centre" flare I think I'll need to model a real aperture (a plane with a hole in it, it should be placed where the + mark is on the crossection diagram).

the render i've got going at the minute has the sun dead centre, a couple of nice circular flares (i dunno really if they are real proper flares though??!). there is no lens aperture.

and if that doesn't look enough like HAL9000, here's an earlier test that went a bit wrong.

chronologically the first one is "artistical" and you could earn 100000000...$ for it, if you painted it by hand :P

2nd one looks great :D
But the sun looks a bit small...
I think, it would look greater, in real life... maybe, it's the turbity...

Adding lens rigs is a nice idea of a plugin for Indigo ! It would be even better if lenses were generated procedurally within Indigo itself (using mediums to do some CSG-like operations maybe).
I tried to do this by some "destructive solid geometry" but didnt get it to work
Caution with normals then, CSG is not easily successfull in every 3d package...
