yeah it makes it the reflections clearer, but if you have a really fine bump map for the grooves, it will appear as blurry anisotropic reflections.
its like the trick in Blender to get blurry reflections: you just add a really fine noise bump map and adjust its power to get the degree of bluriness and antialias the shit out of it. same idea but using grooves intsead of dots.

do i love to come back hours later to see that one object was misplaced
argh ...
also the hour glass did not have sub-surf turned on.
what do you guys think sofar? This is just my first project with Indigo so be nice
the brushed metal look seems to help when you need some semi blurred - stretched reflections but it seems not to work very well with stretching the specular reflection !!!
the big problem here is also scale and detail. the mayapple is much smaller than the hourglass and somehow when you apply a texture to it you need to keep that in mind. i wish that indigo could use procedural plug ins to to those things !!!

I need to rework the texture sizes a lot.
hu i noticed that in case the map is to fine you get some crazy moaire artifacts...
I just really wish there would be a procedural function to calculate a fine groove grid independent of the mesh size.

oh yes!!!! the spot light idea for the background and the light box idea were things i never thought about sofar. i always stuck light meshes into the scene.

hey guys
the rendering is now working since around 9 hours and i do not see any change in the grain?
the silver surfaces have a very fine brushed bump map.
any tip? because otherwise I would call the rendering be done and
reduce some noise with neat images or so.

Have you saved igi ?
If yes you can try to resume the image with lower <max_change> and
<large_mut_prob>, maybe divide them by ten for a start.
This is experimental
EDIT@OnoSendai: Obviously at a certain point Indigo has covered
the range allowed by these settings, igi format would allows Indigo to
resume itself with updated settings (based on harmonics of the former
ones) isn't it.

jesus, it finally starts to clean up, after 18 hours.
so obviously brushed and bumped surfaces with refection's in it are a time killer
Did I understand it right that when I kill the rendering right now. I could resume it later again because I saved the igi file?
How do I do that?
