This render is really more of a test how Indigo handles HDRI's really. I'm not sure I agree. It is a great HDR, and the "plain" reflections is a result of the open landscape that the HDRI and the backplates are photographed in. I kinda like the smooth, light reflections over the car body. Of course, this is only one of the many scenes that I'm going to work with, so there will be more opportunities to show off the shapes of the car.

Thank you for helping me improving. Sorry if i sounded harsh, I just got a little frustrated because I couldn't understand what you meant with "sophisticated lighting".

Here is a bigger render.

Oh, and provided is a Yafaray render of an Aston Martin that I did about a year ago, using the same HDRI. Not sure I've improved yet. :?

"sophisticated lighting" was meant as opposed to an open, scene-wide lighting. I thought I would tell something since you were asking, please take it easy.

As technical tests my opinion is that they are just fit and neat :)

Oscar, great renders - are you able to detail how you created them? I'm trying to do the same (only in Sketchup) with the same HDR and back plates and the results I get are nothing like as impressive.

Thanks :)

Thanks for your report Oscar!
I think the XJ 220 is one of the sexiest cars ever... and it's a cool render, just that the rims looks a little like plastic. Keep 'em coming :)

Thanks all. Bosseye, here http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... php?t=3550 is a good way of doing it. It explains most of it, although I create a plane which the car is standing on, and map the backgound image onto it from the camera, to get around the "3D Object floating in a HDRI Sphere" problem, which otherwise would make the bottom parts of the car catch too much light from the HDR.

P: It is indeed sexy!

Here is a studio render, where I tried to add a vintage look in PS... what do you think? :|

Hi Oscar,
How are you making the material?
It doesn't quite look right.

On a related note I'm doing some experiments with a 'coating' material type that should be useful for car paint.
Here's a test render:

The material is a dielectric coating, IOR 1.5 over a rough gold surface.

that really sounds (and looks great)!
Seems there are quite some improvements in the materials coming, any idea if when we can start playing with it?!
Mid of October would fit well, since I'm on vacations soon and back then :D

All these new experimental features will start getting released after 3.4 stable is done, which will be ASAP.

I think the metallic layer has a too high exponent.

How does this look to you?

While the latest one looks more realistic, the preview one looks much cooler to me 8)
