Best middle price CPU for Indigo?

Dear all,

I'm thinking of replacing my Phenom X4 by something more powerful.

I am currently interested by i5 or i7 in the 200€-300€ range.
What is the difference in Indigo performance between the two? For example between i5 3550 and i7 3750.

OK, thanks. The 2600K seems very good for the price.
It seems the I7 3xxx series is not really interesting? I was tempted by the low TDP (77W) as I'm sleeping in the same room as the machine and want some quietness. My Phenom X4 has 95W, and the I7 2600K 90W.

My 2600k is also @ 4.4Ghz and was the best price/performance ratio for me six months ago.
I got a rather big cooler (Thermalright HR-02 Macho), and the cores don't get past 65°C (as shown with CoreTemp which outputs the individual cores, not the chip itself, so it's always some degress hotter than other progs)
With ASUS FanExpert the computer ist not really noticeable, it's absolutely quiet while idle (CPU @ 1.6Ghz @ 35°C). But that doesn' hold true while rendering
Let me know if you need other benchies.

im sleeping 2meters from PC case and its total quiet. Corsair PSU + passive cooler = 0db.

Galinette, I also went from a Phenom X4 (940) oc'ed to 3.3 Ghz to a Core i7 2600K oc'ed to 4.7Ghz.

Performance is much improved; the Erotica test scene as an example used to be around 400-600K with the Phenom, it is now near 1600K+ samples per sec with the Core i7.

Temps are much controlled under the i7; with the Corsair H50 and two 1350 RPM fans either side in a push-pull setup, under full load the temps hover around 60-62C, which is quite good given it is overclocked, and is very quiet.

Definitely go for an i7 2600K, but it is true that the i7 3xxx series suffer from bad heat problems despite a lower TDP.

I now use the Phenom as a slave node for Indigo.
