Depth of the object

Post by kepler » Wed Feb 14, 2007 9:38 pm

Hello, I have a "strange" question: when - for example - I'm rendering a wall, and the material is phong or diffuse (no transparency) does it matter if this wall is modelled like a cube (with a depth) or like a plane? Obviously this make difference if I'm rendering a glass, but with no transparent materials it seems to have no importance. I'm wrong? :?

p.s. I'm using Indigo 0.60

Thank you, and welcome to the community!

Another question: the dimension of the object is important? For example if I'm rendering a small cube of 10cm^3 there is a difference if I model it in Blender with the dimensions equal to 0.1x0.1x0.1 (1 unit in Blender is 1 meter right?) or 100x100x100? I did some experiments and it seems that expecially with glass material the dimensions are important, but I'm not sure.

AFAIK the dimension is only important by lighting and SSS materials. Look here http://www2.indigorenderer.com/joomla/f ... php?t=1277
